Hey! Thank you so much for having us. We’ve all been well thanks
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Am I Alive?”?
Am I Alive is a slightly new direction for the band, it’s a more melodic song and quite bare in places. It’s the first track that our guitarist Rob has made his mark with. He came to us with a really cool demo and we took that and worked on it together as a band.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Am I Alive is written about becoming a father and how it changes your perspective on life. It gives you a sense of a fresh start and a purpose.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
Our friend Zoe Prosser from ZipZap decided to make an animated video for the track. It is something totally different to normal and has come out amazing so massive props to her for that.
The single comes off your new EP Am I Awake? – what’s the story behind the title?
This links back to the song ‘Am I Alive?’ and the whole hope/purpose theme.
With the recent addition of Rob in the band we all feel this is a new chapter for Maven so we’ve got to have hope, right?
How was the recording and writing process?
It’s painless and straight forward! It usually involves Sam and Joe getting together and writing a demo over time. Then it will go to Dan for quality control and then out comes a finished track. We then get into the studio with our good friend Oz Craggs at Hidden Track studios who is always on the same page as us song-wise and always gets the best out of every one of us.
How has THRICE and Bring Me The Horizon influenced your writing?
THRICE have been a big influence on Joe who is our primary song writer so naturally that spills out into our material in some form! The newest BMTH releases are so well produced and well written that it spurred us on to write differently and really push ourselves creatively.
What role does the UK play in your music?
The UK has some of the greatest musicians/bands/artists the world has ever seen, so to be part of that is really something special.
What aspect of your own lives did you get to explore on this record?
A lot of the EP is written from events I’ve seen unfold with other people close to me, various topics come into the EP including emotional abuse, selfishness, responsibilities and a new look on life.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
A lot of lyrics come from your own emotions, so if I’m ever feeling angry, sad or generally upset about something, I turn straight to my phones note pad to start writing stuff down.
Any plans to hit the road?
Sure are! We are doing a short run of dates with the amazing Like Torches on the 29th & 30th November and one on 1st December but there is more information to come!
What else is happening next in MAVEN’s world?
We’ve spent our time this year really getting our act together and preparing for this EP release as we wanted to do it properly this time around. We have spent a lot of man hours getting ready for it so hopefully you’ll all have some good things to say about it when it is all released!
