Hi Haley, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been doing great, thank you!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Don’t Say”?
Of course. Don’t Say was the last song that I recorded for my EP. It started as a voice memo on my phone and ended up being my one of my favorite songs I’ve written.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
This song was inspired by the feeling I had when I was just starting to date a guy. I didn’t want him to be like the rest of the guys I had dated where they would fall in love so fast and not realize how hurtful it is when you say “I love you” but don’t really mean it.
Any plans to release a music video for the single?
I released a lyric video for the single, but I have a concept for a music video, so we will see.
How was the recording and writing process?
It came very naturally. Each song on this EP was inspired by true events in my life, so it all flowed out.
What role does Iowa play in your music?
Living in Iowa, you get to experience all different areas of life. We have big cities, small towns, and a lot of country. It’s like a melting pot of all different cultures. So in that aspect I’ve always been able to relate to every genre of music.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! I have released the full EP, self titled, Canny. It’s on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, etc.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes! I plan to have dates set soon.
What else is happening next in Canny’s world?
I am always writing, so you can definitely plan on hearing more from me!
