INTERVIEW: CyAnne

Hi CyAnne, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you! I’m good. Excited to chat with you !

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Nobody Better”?

Yes so its my very first single. I wrote this with a very talented singer-songwriter Mariami. We both love R&B, so it  definitely has that feel. We’ve both been in the industry as artists for a while. It came from that, just the struggles, the ups and downs of chasing after your dream, that no one knows you and what you’re capable of achieving better than yourself. Boom. “Nobody Better” came to life!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Nothing in particular. It does talk about the journey I’ve had being an artist and a singer. The ups and downs of it all that most of us experience. But more than anything, it’s about the journey of growing into the person you want to be, the person you’re destined to be.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! Super excited to release the video. Good friends of mine, shot and directed the video.  Esteban Serrano who works at MTVs TRL and Godfrey Tabarez who won a Moon Man award for Chris Brown’s “Turn Up the Music.” It was really fun shooting it and I’m excited for ya’ll to see it!

How was the recording and writing process?

We were just jamming in the studio. Mari had just flown from LA so we just wanted to chat a bit, chill, hang out  and Justin just started playing his guitar. So we originally wrote the song with just the guitar and built it from there. It came together organically.

What made you want to go for a much organic approach with this record?

It just happened that way. I’ve done a lot of songs, where most of the production was done first. But when you’re in a writing session, I think lyrics and melody always come organically. But for “Nobody Better” I think it happened this way because it was supposed to happen this way haha, if that makes any sense. Meaning we didn’t plan to write it in anyway. It was the first time we were all writing together, and so I think it had a lot to do that. We were all just getting to know each other and feeling each others energy. No one was rushing to “finish” the song, we were just jamming and having fun!

How your Filipino background does influences your music?

In my household we listened to a lot of pop music singers. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, and we did a lot of karaoke! Every gathering we had growing up, there was always singing and dancing. So that definitely influenced my music for sure. It’s apart of our culture. To eat, sing, and dance!

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Yes, of course. I’m always learning. So when collaborating with someone I wanna know their process for sure. I’ll definitely put my imprint on it, but I definitely like learning new ways for sure. There’s no right way of making music, it just needs to feel good and it’s different for everyone.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, there’s definitely more new music coming out! I’m excited to share what we’ve been cooking in the studio… So yes, more new music coming soon!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Haha, you’ll know when its out! Just kidding! But we’ll give little snippets and sneak peaks for sure in the upcoming months. So look out for it on my stories and IG!

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m actually doing my first show here in NY mid October. But yes for sure. There will be an LA and Miami show coming up early next year.

What else is happening next in CYANNE’s world?

More new music. More shows. Thankful for the opportunity to share the music we’ve been working on for the last year.  I’m excited for people to hear it and hope you all love it as much as I loved writing and singing them!

Listen “Nobody Better”.
