INTERVIEW: Christian James

Hi Christian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! I’ve been very busy but everything is going well! Thank you so much for having me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “There 4 U”?

I wrote ‘There 4 U’ about a year and a half ago. After I released my last single ‘Never Said Sorry’ I was eager to put this one out but it still wasn’t ready. So I really dug into my inspiration (Central Blvd) and finally wrote the words I was trying to say for this particular song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Many events inspired me to write this song. Looking back at a past relationship and seeing what went wrong like most of us do, I just thought to myself, what would happen if I was actually there for her? So I wrote about it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! Music video drops this Friday! October 4th.

The single comes off your new album Central Blvd – what’s the story behind the title?

In 2016, I moved into my first apartment at 18 years old. I met this girl while going to college at Palm Beach State. I feel like I made a lot of memories on that street and this EP is dedicated to those memories. I found myself in a big growth period during those times when I lived there, and it will always be something special to me.

How was the recording and writing process?

I was laying in my bed one day playing the guitar. Out of nowhere I started writing the hook to this song. The lyrics were a little different but had the same concepts. I then took it over to my buddy AREN, who helped produce and co-write this song. There 4 U had many recordings and so many different productions, but when we got to the final mix with Afflux Studios, I knew it was exactly what I had imagined it to be.

What role does Nashville play in your music?

Nashville is a very inspiring city. There are artists and musicians everywhere you look. The biggest role it plays in my music though, is that it’s not home to me. I grew up by the beach and under palm trees. So having a different scenery is nice but it inspires me more to write about the things that I miss having around me.

What aspect of lost love did you get to explore on this record?

I explored so many aspects of it. The heartbreak of missing someone, not really sure if you will ever see them again and just having them completely out of your life. It’s not easy and the only thing you can do is keep moving on. It’s just part of life.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

The instruments of this song gave me a nostalgic feeling. Almost like being near the ocean again or even back to the times on Central Blvd. Once I got the vibe down, I wrote the lyrics to fit what I was feeling at the time. I just wanted to continue telling my story.

Any plans to hit the road?

Once this EP is finished, I am talking to my new management about doing some gigs around Nashville and then hitting other cities in the near future!

What else is happening next in Christian James’ world?

More songs to complete the EP are on the way!
