PREMIERE: Whimsical Releases “I Always Dream of You”

Taking cues from some of the greatest bands off the 90s like The Cranberries, Whimsical’s new single is hauntingly beautiful rock piece that will throw you back into the heydays of Alternative Rock when it was both dreamy and had a inherent sense of nostalgia. Speaking of which, the video for the single captures all this through the use of images that interpolates to create a piece that can only be described as a trip.

About the single, the band comments “Although this album would be mostly the heavier and distorted side of the Whimsical sound, we knew that it was equally important to still have a few cleaner/dreamier songs on the album.  I Always Dream of You was the first of these songs to be written for the album and it’s a good representation of Whimsical’s past as well as their future.  The dreamier upbeat verses contrast with the heavier choruses that give way to an ending that would make any Slowdive fan proud.”

If there’s one thing that people can relate to it is human emotion and matters of the heart.  Whimsical wants to write music that will tug at those heartstrings and give people songs that they are able to emotionally connect to and identify with.  From feelings of heartbreak to hope, love, loss, trust and betrayal, lyrically Krissy covers it all on this album.  Musically, with Bright Smiles & Broken Hearts, Whimsical was trying to add a bigger production value and expand the scope of what they could achieve. Neil Burkdoll recorded this in his home studio, drawing inspiration from the love of some of his favorite early 90’s productions.  When recording this album, he wanted to try and use the recording studio as an instrument.  It was important to write songs that had layers and depth to them, but also not worry about whether they could be performed live as a band.  Their musical influences remained the same this time around, but because of advancements in technology and new experiences, the music took on new life.  Whimsical stayed true to their roots and you will hear their signature sound all over this album, but it’s definitely not predictable.  They tried many new things and experimented with ideas to bring a fresh perspective to their sound.  In the end, Bright Smiles & Broken Hearts is an album they’ve poured their hearts and imagination into!
