INTERVIEW: Elodie Rêverie

Hi Elodie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been enjoying the California fall and spending time with my cat Eloise-no complaints!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Fire In The Desert”?

“Fire in the Desert” is the first song I produced after sitting in on a free Logic workshop in the Apple store.

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

I was inspired by my time living in the desert where I learned to make fire (a process called “bow-drilling).

I see a parallel in the process of making fire and producing music; two powerful expressions of built-up tension requiring razor-sharp focus and grit.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I have started a GoFundMe for the video so we’ll see!

How were the recording and writing process?

I wrote the lyrics on an iPhone note and made the beat in my bedroom, which is typically what I do. I tracked vocals in a studio in the lower east side that I once recorded covers at with the acclaimed Marc Cary and sent them over to Dan Konopka of OK Go, who I will be working with on a new song this week!

What made you want to go in a different direction and self-produce this song?

I think that producing, and writing, doing it all myself, is the ultimate creative expression.

What made you want to head over to the desert?

I wanted to do some soul searching.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes. I do not have a shortage of original material and I am constantly inspired. I will continue to release singles I’ve been working on all year—I have decided not to go down the EP route because I don’t think a singular concept ties my work together thus far.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I may be dropping a Halloweenesque single called “Golden Ghosts” around Halloween.

Any plans to hit the road?

I have shows coming up in NYC and Arizona this month but no official tour yet!

What else is happening next in Elodie Rêverie’s world?

I’m in LA focusing on making more music!

For the past month or so I’ve shifted my focus to marketing and live performance but I’m ready to get back into the studio and I’m looking forward to working with Dan on some new material!
