The esports industry is booming right now. It is estimated that revenues from esports will exceed 1 billion dollars in 2020. Esports gambling is another industry experiencing rapid growth. This year it is expected that the total amount wagered on esports could reach 8 billion dollars with projected revenues of 560 million dollars so there is definitely some interest out there.
So, with that amount of money being thrown around is it feasible to earn a living as an esports gambler? Plenty of gambling related websites out there that will lead you to believe you can earn big money through CS:GO gambling or betting on some other esport and it is possible. After all, even a blind hog will find an acorn once in awhile. The fact is you can make money consistently betting on esports but it isn’t easy.
Take CS: GO gambling as an example. The first thing that needs to happen is to know the game. Not just be casually familiar, but have knowledge of all the rules, terminology and details of the game. For many potential bettors this won’t be an issue, as their interest in betting on CS: GO probably came about because they enjoy playing the game.
Next you need to know everything you can about the teams and players that you will be wagering on. Watching a few matches isn’t going to be sufficient. Over time you will need to view and analyze hundreds of hours of Counter-Strike matches. This goes well beyond being a casual fan. You should also be aware of team stats such as win/loss records, is a team trending in a positive or negative direction and how they perform on different maps. The more research you do, the better the odds you will be successful. This goes for any esport and not just CS: GO.
Now you know the game, you have done your research and you are ready to bet. Not quite yet. You still need a thorough understanding of betting odds and what they represent. The most common ways for displaying odds are the American and Decimal formats. The odds tell you which team is favored to win and how much you would win if you bet on the particular team. Using the knowledge you have gained from studying the teams involved in a match, you have to decide if the odds being offered on a team are a good value. You are essentially pitting your knowledge against that of the bookmaker. Not every bookmaker offers the same odds on matches. It is a good idea to look at several reputable betting sites to see which is offering the best odds on a particular match.
There is a lot more involved in esportbetting than what has been covered here such as the different types of bets that can be made, live betting (betting while a game/match is in progress) and handicap betting. Obviously there is quite a bit of work that will have to be put into it. So can you make a living betting on esports? Possibly but it is probably easier to get a job. If you have the urge to gamble on esports by all means indulge yourself. Start small and stay within your budget until you learn the ropes. Then you can decide for yourself if you want to make esports gambling a career.
