INTERVIEW: Bree Taylor

Hi Bree, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been crazy busy but with all good things! So i’ve been really well thank you. I am so glad you love the new single!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Drive“?

YES! “Drive” is a feel-good, fun, road trip song that is about escaping your day-to-day life and its stresses and anxieties and just getting in your car with no real destination in mind and having fun with your friends.  I really wanted this song and music video to let people feel like they can escape from whatever they are going through and truly enjoy the blissful magic that is life. We get so caught up in our daily lives and forget to breathe and have fun and just LIVE so that’s what I wanted people to feel when listening to this song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song? How did stress and life in general get to serve as a source of inspiration for this record?

I am very open that I suffer from depression and anxiety and one of the ways I help myself through those feelings and emotions is getting in the car and just driving and listening to loud music. So when we were brainstorming this song, I really felt those feelings but wanted to express them in a more positive way and “Drive” was born! I took feelings that are difficult, challenging and often times emotionally overwhelming and I channeled them into something positive which is what music has always been for me – a positive outlet for my emotions.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

I am SO excited to finally release this incredible music video that we filmed in California this past summer.  The filming process is always SO fun for me and this one in particular was exhilarating because I LOVE driving and I got to drive a mustang convertible for the first time. I have dreamt of driving that car since I was a little girl and it was such a cool experience to be able to drive one in a music video for a song that I truly love. The filming process had its challenges of course – wearing faux leather pants in 120 degree weather in the middle of the desert for one and getting sunburnt arms while driving in Malibu was another, but it was all so worth it! I love the journey and the up’s and down’s are all part of that and of course make great stories – so it all works out in the end.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing and recording process is always so much fun for me! I worked with my producer and co-writer Dajaun Martineau, who brought in a super talented country/folk musician and writer named Shaman Ayerhart and we all collaborated so well together.  My body of work is very emotional and about a lot of heartbreak and the challenges of love and loss so I really wanted to write something different – something fun and upbeat. This song came together so beautifully and I am really proud of it and feel that it shows my fans a different side of me.

What role does Canada play in your music?

Canada is such an inspiring country and I am so blessed to live here and be surrounded by so much talent. I have so many talented and creative friends who inspire me every day and I feel they all play a role as well as each and every wonderful person in my life.  I also love nature and travelling and living in Ontario with changing seasons really inspires me and gives me life being surrounded by the beautiful landscapes we have.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along? Any tentative release date or title in mind?

YES! I am almost finished writing and recording a new EP that I am hoping to release in early 2020. We are well on our way right now and I am excited for fans to hear my first country album. Since my debut EP in summer 2018 (which was a Pop album) – I have found my way back to my country roots that I had in high school/college and I truly feel at home in the country genre.  Country music just feels right for me! I feel that I am bringing something different to country music with my pop music journey and I feel that blending the two genres has truly felt like the right fit for me musically. As for a title for the album – we are still deciding on that one so I can’t say just yet.

Any plans to hit the road?

I will be doing a radio tour across Ontario in October and I have a few shows booked this fall that can be found on my website but I don’t have any current plans to tour and perform right now but hopefully in the new year!

What else is happening next in Bree Taylor’s world?

Well – I am working on finishing up my next EP, performing some upcoming shows in Ontario and promoting this new single and music video. We may also be planning the music video for the next single that will be promoting the album in 2020 so be sure to follow me on social media for updates and behind the scenes footage.
