Glasgow singer-songwriter Daniel Meade returns today with his new single These Things Happen – the first taster of his upcoming new album Rust.Rust highlights Meade’s confident command of classic country songwriting, bar-room rock n’roll and folk introspection – all delivered for the first time in his earthy Scottish brogue – and will be released on 4th October. These Things Happen is an upbeat, power-pop-goes-country intro to the new record and is on streaming and download platforms now.
“A strange thing happened when I came to lay down the vocal of the first song on this album…the words came out in my own Glaswegian accent.” explains Meade on the new album. “It felt right and set the tone for the entire record. Rust collects and reflects all of my influences and experiences over the years – musically, mentally and everything else-ly – more concisely & precisely than anything else I’ve done. I did it all at home, wrote and played everything on it, so I feel very connected to it on many levels. It’s already the favourite album I’ve ever made and probably the best. It feels like a debut, and perhaps, in a way, it is.”
Daniel Meade is an acclaimed songwriter from Scotland with a back catalogue rich in roots, country and blues music. He’s toured and worked with The Proclaimers, Ocean Colour Scene, Sturgill Simpson, Old Crow Medicine Show (some of whom invited him to make an album in Nashville in 2014), Diana Jones, Pokey LaFarge and Robbie Fulks to name just a few. Rustis the 9threlease in 8 years from the constantly creative musician and offers his most fully realised and memorable set of songs yet.
