Wardell, the brother-sister duo of Theo and Sasha Spielberg, have released their latest song “Tokyo Phones” via BlackBook. The track appears on their second full-length album, Impossible Falcon, out September 20. Listen “Tokyo Phones” here.
“This song has been on a long ride,” Theo Spielberg tells Blackbook. “I wrote it while I was working late nights at SNL so I’d get home at like 1 or 2am and that would be the only chance I had to write. (My building would eventually kick me out for this habit). I was in a relationship that I sadly knew would be coming to an end, and I began writing this about the future tense feeling of missing somebody you spend every day with.”
“Anyhow, that song sat in the back pocket for close to three years. We always wanted to record it but somehow never got around to it. Until finally we did; it was the last song we recorded for the album. And right in the middle of recording it, this person called me to speak for the first time in over a year — which sort of ended up finishing the song.”
