INTERVIEW: Julia Lambert

Hi Julia, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I am doing well!  Super busy working on new material and I couldn’t be happier.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Wild Rose In The City”?

“Wild Rose in the City” is an immersive alt-pop song with a theme of dispair and worry at the very core of it.  While trying to stay relevant, it’s hard as a songwriter to still feel authentic and not like you’re writing a song someone else has already written.  I feel like I captured that with this song and I couldn’t be prouder.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

This song was inspired by a relationship I saw unfold and collapse all together right in front of my eyes.  It got me thinking about relationships and what the person goes through-on both sides.  Questions started popping into my head like how did they get here? How could they do that? So I decided to think about perspective and the song started flowing out.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

While writing “Wild Rose” I was already seeing the visuals and color schemes in my head.  The visuals were actually something that fueled my writing process more than anything.  So when it came time for planning and shooting the video I already know exactly what I wanted it to look like.  We did a couple different days of shooting at a couple of different locations involved in the whole process.  This is my first ever music video and the experience was the most rewarding thing ever.  I got to see visuals which I only had in my head for quite some time unfold and come to life right in front of me.

How was the recording and writing process?

“Wild Rose In The City” was actually written in May of 2018, being a skeleton of a song to what it is now, I began recording in late February/early March with my producer Nick Zinnanti and the version you hear today was born. It was the most creative I have ever been in a studio and I cannot wait to record more.

What role does NYC play in your music?

New York is just such an inspiring place to me.  I look at it as the definition of success and hard work.  So whether I’m in the City or the South Shore beaches of Long Island, I’m constantly surrounded with inspiration for more art.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes!  I am planning on going back into the studio soon!  As of right now I am in the writing stage of everything.  I’m pretty psyched with some of the new material and I can’t wait for everyone to hear!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I’m shooting for either early or Spring 2020 to hopefully have another EP coming into the world!  No titles yet, but i’ll tell you first I promise!

Any plans to hit the road?

Not as of right now, but I hope one day soon!  My dream is to share my music and connect with as many people as possible with my music.  Sometimes I feel like there’s this impersonal disconnect when it comes to social media, so meeting people from all different walks of life one day on the road would be so fuflling.

What else is happening next in Julia Lambert’s world?

My whole life is pretty much music music music!  I love it-but when I’m not making music I love to hang out with friends, cook, take photos of my dog (other things too but my dog is just too photogenic), amongst other things to keep my life in balance.  I cannot wait for everyone to see my video for “Wild Rose in the City” and I hope you enjoy!
