INTERVIEW: Breaklite

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Johnny Germ: Stoked, we just played a festival in Pennsylvania with a bunch of dope bands.

K.C. Germ: Awesome! We have a lot of big things on the horizion in the next 6 months.

Steve Hagan: Life couldnt be better excited for the next few months.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Not Afraid”?

JG:  It’s dope as hell, we recorded it with our close Friend Nick May in our basement otherwise known as Club Germ.

SH: Definitely One of my favorite songs to play live

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

KG: The song itself was written about heartbreak and how it shouldn’t hold you back from anything in life.

Would this and your upcoming new track are somewhat connected or they showcase a different side of the band?

KG: Yes and No.

JG: Not Afraid sort of toes the line between our poppier and heavier sides.

SH: They definitely showcase different sides of the band.

Any plans to release a video for any of the singles?

JG: Not at the moment but I’d say keep your eyes peeled over the course of the next few months because you never know…

How was the recording and writing process?

KG: Not Afraid in particular was one of those songs that was written quickly and just flowed pretty quickly in the recording process

JG: It was all very spur of the moment with Nick and we had this group  of songs that we thought needed to be released.

SH: Frustrating and Fun.

What role does Philly play in your music?

SH: Its the city that we’ve gotten our start

KG: Without philly we wouldn’t really sound the way we do. It’s like Seattle, the gloominess and the density of the population keeps the sound fresh from the diverse influence.

How has The Hives and Nirvana influenced your writing?

JG: The Hives kind of bring that garage rock vibe with catchy hooks and Nirvana in the attitude and lyrical content.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

SH: Absolutely, keep a look out over the next few Friday the 13ths

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

JG: September 13th for the latest single and its just an A-Side of Not Afraid and a Bside of No More Rainy Days.

Any plans to hit the road?

KG: Trying to head out west and keep your eyes peeled for Breaklite in Austin around SXSW.

What else is happening next in Breaklite’s world?

KG: Only time will tell, we take everything day by day….
