Au/Ra has shared her new single, “Stay Happy.” Listen HERE. On the track, Au/Ra asks: “Is there a shortcut to stay happy? I just want to have my glow back” – a pertinent question, especially for her generation who has grown up with social media where only showing one’s ‘best self’ is expected.

Au/Ra says: “I wrote ‘Stay Happy’ while I was feeling very grey – not sad, not happy, just a strange middle neutral feeling. I questioned what it means to be happy and the lyrics started flowing and didn’t stop. In our society we’re taught to conceal our sadness, as though it is bad, but how are you supposed to know the good without it? Through the process of writing this song, I understood I should just embrace those feelings and not pressure myself to put up a happy facade.”

Following US support slots with ALMA and Tove Styrke, Au/Ra will headline two shows in Los Angeles later this month. The Ibiza-born, Antigua-raised songstress will play School Night on Monday, 9/23 with an additional performance at The Hi Hat on Friday, 9/27 presented by We Found New Music. Fans can RSVP to School Night here; tickets to The Hi Hat are on sale now and available here. Visit for more information.

n most of Au/Ra’s deeply visual, evocative lyrics is a sense of escapism, influenced by her fandom of anime and fantasy. Growing up devouring Studio Ghibli films, she’s always loved to disappear into the soft-edged, uncanny world of Miyazaki animations and uses similar designs to flesh out the visual world of her music. “I see my music in my head as anime,” she says. “The world of those movies, they’re so different, and the characters have so many random traits that make them weird in a unique way.”
