Thanks for the warm welcome. I’m having a few days out in Greece right now so feeling pretty good!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Scatterbrain”?
It’s an interesting/potentially crazy track I think. It’s like a conversation I’m having with myself, between conscious and subconscious, like a fight between them… The subconscious is reckless and disorganised and self sabotaging, and its about the battle with overcoming that.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yeah actually. I left my luggage on a train on my way home from a week in Dublin, I lost so much stuff. I kept losing stuff after that as well, even though I was trying to be super careful. So I wrote Scatterbrain to try and teach myself a lesson…
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Now that would be telling (yes).
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing I managed to wrap up pretty quickly in my bedroom, just after I lost my favourite hat in Bristol (the last straw before ‘Scatterbrain’ was born) and the recording was very fun, creative and invigorating.
What was it like to work with Martin Hollis and how did that relationship develop?
A friend of mine introduced the two of us and we clicked immediately, he really believed in my songs and I am so grateful to that.
How much did he get to influence the song?
In terms of the production and the styling of that he had a lot of creative input, I was very keen and open to hearing his vision for the song in terms of the sound…
What role does London play in your music?
London is me, it’s my home and is a constant inspiration. It’s people, it’s streets, it’s complexities. It’s the people within the city that fascinate me, the relationships that form and the strong personalities you meet.
How has your upbringing has influenced your writing?
I’m not sure if I would be doing what I’m doing if not for my family and my upbringing. My mother is an actor and father a guitarist and music lover so I was surrounded by creativity, and there was always music in the house, I was always encouraged to play and sing!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Certainly, I’m so excited to share the new stuff I’ve been working on, I’ve been getting a lot more hands on with in terms of production…
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
That’s a secret 😉
Any plans to hit the road?
So many plans. Whenever I can get the chance!
