It just sort of happens, you know?
It can be embarrassing to offer a friend or colleague a ride somewhere, but before they can even get into the car, you have to remove bundles of mail, water bottles, and potentially french fries from the passenger seat. Nobody wants to see that.
Car clutter is quick to raise your stress level and lower your car’s resale value. Fortunately, learning how to keep your car clean is easy. We have put together a quick list of tips so you can keep your car clean and clutter-free for any and all to see.
Let’s get started.
Subscribe to a Local Car wash
First and foremost, you should keep your car clean on the outside. Having a nice looking car from the outside is great motivation for keeping me inside just as clean.
Lots of car washes offer monthly subscriptions so you can wash your car as often as you want, with only a low monthly fee. It’s even better motivation to know that you’re spending money on the car wash regardless, so you might as well get your money’s worth and run it through.
Another benefit of monthly car wash subscriptions is free vacuuming. Most car washes offer free vacuums for anyone that goes through and gets a wash. Take an extra five minutes after each wash and vacuum out the floorboards and seats. If you keep up with the vacuuming, it won’t take long each time.
Use a Shopping Bag for Trash
Try to keep some sort of trash can or a trash bag in your car at all times. Having a designated area for trash is a great way to encourage yourself to one, use the trash can, and two, empty the trash can.
You can use something as simple as a shopping bag for trash. Hook one handle onto the gearshift and you’re ready to go.
Just don’t forget to replace the bag once you empty it.
Use Plastic Car Caddies to Organize (Or Eat)
Get a small plastic organizer from the dollar store. You can splurge and get a nice one if you want, but all you need is something with multiple compartments for organizing.
Put things like mail and your cell phone in the caddy.
You can also use a car caddy when you go through a drive-through. Use the organizer to hold your fries upright and keep your sandwich from falling apart.
No fries in crevices and no ketchup on your seats.
Use Seat Covers and Fun Floor Mats
Accidents happen. No matter how hard you try to avoid them. Coffee spills and kids throw up.
Whether you’re trying to avoid spills and stains to keep your car’s resale value up or just for aesthetic reasons, you should splurge on some good seat covers and floor mats.
Seat covers will protect your seats and fun floor mats will encourage you to keep the floors clutter-free.
