We’re great thanks! We’re super busy getting ready for the release of our new EP but we are really excited about it.
After the great reception from your previous work – were you any nervous of getting back into the studio or rather the opposite?
Totally the opposite! This was our first time in a full studio setting as a band so we couldn’t wait to get the new tracks on record! It was also our first recording session as a five piece so this also made it a new experience for us.
Did you intend to seek for a whole new direction or rather keep on the same line of thoughts and themes from your last work?
We certainly wanted to keep aspects of our sound from our first release that we enjoy both writing and playing. However we strived to develop these amongst new ideas for this release, musically and thematically, and believe we have achieved this by creating something both familiar and new for us.
Let’s talk about your new EP Desolate – what’s the story behind the title?
We wanted a word that encompassed the themes present across the release. Similar to our first EP which was entitled Endure, ‘Desolate’ sums up the general feeling of the EP with dark and prophetic lyrics being front and centre.
How was the recording and writing process?
We recorded with Dan Kerr down at Avenue Studios in Surrey. Dan was a really relaxed producer and the overall process was nice and chill. We had finished writing the EP prior to heading to the studio which was written in our usual way of us coming together in the practice room and bringing our ideas together.
What role does Detroit play in your music?
Our bass player is a massive James Jamerson fan so Detroit is a big influence on him.
How has Iron Maiden and Trivium influenced your writing?
Both bands have big riffs and melodies which is something we enjoy as both listeners and musicians. In particular Iron Maiden are epic storytellers which is also something we love.
Any plans to hit the road?
We have a few dates coming up for the rest of the year, including an appearance at Balstock festival. In 2020 we’re working on a string of dates with UK Thrash Band Helgrind which should be a blast!
What else is happening next in EARTHBOUND’s world?
The big thing for us is obviously our new EP ‘Desolate’ which is coming out in October. We’re also working on a couple of really cool projects and ideas that we’re also super excited for.
Head Honcho, Editor in Chief and writer here on VENTS. I don't like walking on the beach, but I love playing the guitar and geeking out about music. I am also a movie maniac and 6 hours sleeper.
