If you put in a search about marketing on Google, most of the results will be related to digital marketing, if not all of them. Does that mean offline marketing is dead? Not at all, and it should also be noted certain types of traditional branding methods will never lose validity even in the future unless something changes drastically about how we perceive reality itself!
The Touch of Reality
It would be pointless to argue the benefits, easy accessibility and cost-effectiveness of online branding opportunities but it’s also true that the internet cannot possibly replicate certain aspects of real life in the same way that traditional marketing can. Take, for example, the branded mugs from Grey Fox Pottery, which are handmade pieces of art. These can be customized to fit your brand’s logo in any way that you want them to. When you give these out to your special clients and partners, you are essentially engaging with them on a number of levels that online marketing efforts simply can’t reach. Every time they use that classy piece of stoneware with your brand logo on it, they will appreciate the feel and the quality automatically, which they will then come to subconsciously associate with your company.
The ability to touch, feel, see and physically use a piece of merchandise will always engage more senses that a virtual element can, therefore, making the whole branding process a lot more effective, but only if the experience is a good one, of course!
Salesmanship Cannot be Replaced
Although we tend to use marketing and sales synonymously, they are not one and the same. That being said, their goals are the same, which is why both teams often have to work in each other’s fields.
The job of the salesman includes quite a bit of marketing as well, which is often the most important factor that determines whether he/she is able to make a sale for the company or not. The online marketing might have brought the potential customer to the car showroom, but unless you have experienced car salesmen/saleswomen to convert it into an actual sale, everything else fails.
On the spot marketing is a skill which experienced salesmen/saleswomen have and it’s something that an online marketing tool can never replace. The human interaction factor is huge in business and experts in marketing and sales know-how to utilize that for conversion.
Word of Mouth Marketing: A Stronger Tool than Online Reviews?
Whether we are about to buy a new laptop or the latest iPhone, almost everyone who is even a little familiar with tech will go on Google or YouTube to look for reviews on products that they have shortlisted.
As they are quite literally looking for suggestions from experts, what these influencers mention in their reviews will hold importance to the potential buyers. However, the real question is, will they trust strangers on the internet more than what their friends or relatives suggest?
The answer will vary, depending on the particular situation, but more often than not, people tend to believe real-life, first-hand experiences more than online information. The only way to make sure that your former customers are saying good things about you is to offer a great sales experience and customer support.
Offline marketing works and will continue to work because we all live in the real world. Be it a coffee mug or an honest, first-hand opinion from a former customer, they will always have the all-important advantage of feeling more real than anything viewed on the internet.
