Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Transparency”?
Yes, it’s a special song to me and I’m absolutely stoked to have a legend on it as well.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I had a lot of lyrics all leading to the concept of being transparent with someone. I nailed the concept when I got in the room with some friends and wrote this song.
From all the songs out there, why did you choose to remix this track in particular?
This track originally was a little more “pop” but felt it could be cool if it was a club mix so, here we are.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
The filming was a whirlwind. I went to Atlanta to do the video and worked with an incredible team on dance, outfits, etc. all in two days.
How was the recording and writing process?
Recording and writing were done around 4th of July. Instead of partying and watching fireworks I was making this song right here.
What was it like to work with Gucci Mane and how did that relationship develop?
Working with Gucci was lovely. We first met at the studio and finished recording the song together, then got to hang more at the video shoot.
How much did he get to influence the song?
He really makes this song for me. His lyrics are my favorite.
Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?
It depends on the situation. When I’m starting from scratch in a room with someone it’s pretty much open mind and ears. You never know if someone will say something that you are just completely amazed by. Listen.
How have Lorde and Stevie Nicks influenced your writing?
I love Stevie Nicks’ and Lorde’s way of wording stories together. Stevie also has been influencing my new songs; what’s to come.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material? How’s that coming along?
Yes! As I was saying, I’ve been working on new music. Being that I’m a singer-songwriter at my core and grew up playing guitar, I’ve been transiting into a new sound that reflects that.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Early next year 🙂
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes! Next year 🙂
