Evaluating Personal Performance: A Deeper Look

Being able to do a task successfully is a result of several factors. Regardless of what those factors are, the crucial thing is that you deliver the best of your efforts.

In organizations, different people carry varying responsibilities. They hold different positions that typically outline their responsibility and role in the organization.

No matter what your position in the organization is, you will be assessed by your ability to finish a task within the standards set by the management. Your output is reflective of what type of employee you are. Some people consistently perform beyond expectations while some employees settle.

Assessing your performance is critical. It offers you numerous benefits. Among them are the following.

  • Improving self-awareness. The most significant benefit of self-assessment is that it helps in the improvement of your self-awareness. You get to know yourself more. You get to discern which areas you perform better at and those that you need to improve.

  • It opens the opportunity to hone existing skills and the discovery of new ones. When you acknowledge that performance evaluation is critical toward self-development and self-actualization, you get to make incredible progress. You would have a better idea about how to hone your skills. At the same time, you may discover other skills and abilities you have yet to harness.

  • Development of commitment. The University of Virginia noted that self-evaluation helps in increasing your determination to set and achieve your goals. When you have scanned your abilities and limitations, you become more determined to improve yourself. As a result, you have higher chances of achieving your goal.

In conducting your performance evaluation, you may consider several characteristics. The University of South Carolina has a list of these things. Here are some of them.

  1. Ability to communicate. How do you express your ideas? How accurate is the information you share through oral and written communication?

  2. Relationship with co-employees and others. How is your relationship with your co-workers? Do you maintain positive relationships? Do you respect everyone at all times?

  3. Work ethics sans supervision. Could you work effectively even without your supervisor’s guidance? Do you perform well even under pressure?

  4. Physical appearance. Do you observe your organization’s dress code? How do you look when you’re at work?

  5. Time. How do you use your work hours? Do you use your time efficiently? Do you deliver your tasks on time?

  6. Working with others. How willing are you to work with others? Do you cooperate with everyone to achieve organizational goals?

  7. Trustworthiness. Can the organization depend on you in delivering tasks on time and consistently maintain high quality? Can you be tapped for urgent matters?

  8. Willingness to adapt. How adaptable are you when you are assigned to another unit? How do you respond to organizational changes?

  9. Competency. Are you knowledgeable enough to handle a task or responsibility? Do you have the vital skills for the position you are holding?

  10. Attendance. Are you always around to do what is expected of you? How often do you take a leave of absence? Do you have absenteeism problems?

If you want to be an effective and efficient employee, evaluating your performance can help. You can also look for an app or software which can assist you in tracking your improvement.
