Berlin based psych-indie-pop group Morioh Sonder offer a trip in to their world with the release of their debut single, the first from their forthcoming EP, titled ‘I Want To Die On My Birthday’ – to be released independently today.
Morioh Sonder’s songwriting brings together surf pop and psych rock, in an amalgamation with influences from post punk, disco and Brit-pop, all together encapsulating a unique, dance worthy, yet whimsical modern pop sound. The band’s debut single ‘I Want To Die On My Birthday’ is a wash with shimmering synths, catchy guitar melodies, quirky vocals, and a climactic chorus, all elevating the track to a level that showcases the band’s skill in writing music which differs from the norm.
“This track was written after reading a super dumb fact about how many people die on your birthday (but isn’t your birthday everyday if you’re a random person reading it??). This track is very esoteric and is about negative feelings in everybody’s life. Specifically that moment when you’re hit by a deep awareness of how pointless something is/ time going too fast/ the hardship of getting to truly know someone. In the end, everything is given up with a motto that represents self-irony and loss of hope.”
