INTERVIEW: Singer-Songwriter Emma Currie

Q: Hi Emma, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

A: I’ve been great! I’ve been very busy the past several months with the release of my first single from my upcoming EP, as well as redesigning my new web page,

Q: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Midnight Sky”?

A: I co-wrote Midnight Sky with Taylor-Rae. It’s a funky, upbeat, R&B based number that talks about the “Honeymoon Phase” of a new relationship and enjoying a night out with that special person!

Q: Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

A:  There wasn’t any particular event that inspired this song. However, I had this melody stuck in my head and the idea to write an upbeat and fun love song. So I teamed up with Taylor and together we brought the idea to life using some inspirations from things such as romantic movies and popular old love songs.

Q: Any plans to release a video for the single?

A: Yes! I just finished shooting the video out in Squamish, BC. Stay tuned to find out when it will be released!

Q: How was the recording and writing process?

A: It was fun! I get along great with Taylor so writing with her is always nice. For the recording process, it was interesting to record the song at nighttime. Funny how I recorded the song “Midnight Sky” at midnight!

Q: What role does Vancouver play in your music?

A: I was born and raised in Vancouver, and through word-of-mouth in the music industry, I met JUNO-nominee Warren Dean Flandez. He’s helped me immensely with introducing me to songwriters and producers, so the city has been great in helping to push my career.

Q: Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

A: There isn’t really a different approach when collaborating and writing on my own. I just come up with a melody, or song lyric, or even an idea and with some songs it takes me to writing with another songwriter, and with others, they don’t.

Q: Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

A: Absolutely! It’s going great and I’m really excited about it!

Q: Any tentative release date or title in mind?

A: No release date yet, but my next single will be coming very soon. It’s based off of something I went through earlier this year, and I’m so excited for you all to hear it, so stay tuned!

Q: Any plans to hit the road?

A: Not at the moment, however I really hope to as I would love to perform across Canada and beyond!

Q: What else is happening next in Emma Currie’s world?

A: Other than working on my EP, I work a part-time job working with pets. I also have a Maltese x Yorkie named Louie who is my sweet little fur baby that I take care of. In my spare time, I usually go to the gym, hang out with my close friends and I’ve also been dating someone for the past few months, so I’ve been with him a lot.
