Hi Lulise, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi VENTS! I’m great! So good to be back, thanks for having me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Taken”?

The title came to me while I was driving home from hanging out with a guy I had a crush on, who had a girlfriend. I was frustrated because I thought that we had a connection and so I asked myself the question “why do you got be taken!?” As soon as I asked myself that question a melody came to me and “Taken” was born!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes! He was a friend of a friend that I met last year, who I was immediately attracted to. One night we were at a party just talking and laughing about different stuff and I couldn’t help but feel butterflies. He casually brought up that he had a girlfriend and my heart broke a little. Driving home that night is when the idea of the song came to me.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Not right now, but there are plans to release new music!

How was the recording and writing process?

So much fun! I collaborated on the song with one of my favorite artist/producers Pretty Sister. My favorite thing to record was the background vocals!

What role does LA play in your music?

LA is a really special place to live because I feel like there is inspiration around me all the time. The people, the places and the energy is buzzing with creativity and new ideas.

How have Ariana Grande and Camilla Cabello influenced your writing?

They are two artists that immensely inspire me. I love that they are both so much in the driver’s seat of their music, in what it sounds like and what they want to say. I strive to be the kind of artist who is always speaking honestly from the heart like they do.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

I think every single song I write has a different approach, whether I am collaborating or alone. My best songs have come when I or my collaborated has a concept or a title that they want to write about. I love taking the idea and forming the whole song around that. That’s how it worked for “Taken.”

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have two new songs ready to go! Coming soon!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

“Lovin’ You” coming this fall.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! My manager and I are working hard to put together my first tour! Stay updated with dates on
