Hello! Thanks for having me, I have been great very excited to announce the new release.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Stay In My Way“?
Yes would love to, Stay in my way is the lead single off my two track E.P, Self titled CarleyLusk. I wrote the song in like ten minutes, and couldn’t get it out of my head for the whole week.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Of course! A damn break up, always gets the job done. This song is basically about working off emotions before understanding what’s fully happening. I am very emotional, and it tends to drive the decisions I make. Especially in vulnerable situations like being in love. “When I said for you to move on, what I really meant was, please stay in my way”. I can’t make up my mind! Sorry boys
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was truly a beautiful experience, I was able to work with people I am very close with. Adam Jones has been creating visuals with me since the beginning, and edited this project. The full crew was my sister Kaitlyn, friends Russell, and Tom. I’m surrounded by very talented people and am grateful for that!
The single comes off your new self-titled EP –why naming the record after yourself?
Good question. I spent a lot of time in the beginning of my career trying to figure out a stage name, and trying to be something. After growing tired of trial and error I realized, wait I should just be me. CarleyLusk.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process comes easy, words are always flowing out of me and it is like medicine to write music. Recording was also an amazing experience. The track was recorded in Utah with Craig Poole. I had never been to Utah and my nerves turned to butterflies after seeing the mountain tops , and working beside Craig.
What role does LA play in your music?
Los Angeles has and still is teaching me a lot. I moved here from Michigan, and landed a serving job at a country club. I got the manager to let me sing out on the patio one night, and music exec Dan Hubbert was in the crowd. He took me under his wing and helped me to create this project which I am very proud of!
What aspect of your own life did you get to explore on this record?
I reached new places I didn’t know where there, in my voice and willingness to work hard.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Artists like Art Winehouse and Frank Ocean are huge inspirations to me. I love how vivid and colorful their lyrics are. They aren’t writing for other people it all feels very genuine, it moves me.
Any plans to hit the road?
Most shows have been local, but I will keep working hard to bring a tour, and I’ll come to your town.
What else is happening next in CarleyLusk‘s world?
I am still writing every day, I want to put out a full album and keep pushing my music until I hear it everywhere I go.
