Rising reggae star Mortimer drops a new video for his single “Lightning” that just premiered at The Fader (https://www.thefader.com/2019/08/09/mortimers-lightning-video-displays-love-in-its-purest-form). The new single is a classic down-tempo reggae love song with a modern update. With a sparse rhythm section featuring a live Hammond organ and rhythm guitar, joined later by live steel guitar, horns, and synthesizers, which build to a passionate crescendo. A love song for the ages, Mortimer sings his way straight into hearts with his romantic, heart-felt lyrics. The video – directed by Pete Beng and produced by Claire Osman captures the stunning beauty of nature as it follows young love into maturity with a coming of age narrative. Mortimer reflects, “Lightning is a song I wrote for my wife and I wanted the video to stay true to that. The video features my wife and our children towards the end. I wanted the vibe to feel as natural as possible, with the person I feel naturally comfortable with and around. That person who has been there for me all these years through thick and thin, ups and downs, frowns and laughter. This video is dedicated to her.”
Mortimer is also well-known for his collaborations with Protoje, including a featured spot on the song “Truths & Rights” from the GRAMMY-nominated album A Matter Of Time.
