How To Write A Book: 5 Simple Steps To Writing Your First Book

Writing a book is a serious and time-consuming task that you must invest time, effort, and will in. As you know, a book will not write itself on its own so you must work on it. Also, it is not just enough to decide to write it and start writing just like that, as there are many things you need to consider and define. However, there are 5 simple steps that you can do to make the whole process much easier and more organized. This article will be your guide for writing, but you must know that you really need to be motivated to finish it before you even start contemplating this activity.

Know what your book is going to be about

First of all, you need to define the goal of your book. The easiest way to do this is to write a sentence or a short paragraph where you will define your goal of the book so you could know where you are going. After you do this, write the table of contents to have an outline of the structure of your book since you do not want to miss an important part. This will enable you to break the book apart into the smaller parts, so you include everything you want in it. As you know, each book has three main parts: the beginning, the main part, and the final part or conclusion.

This way of starting will make your writing much easier, as you have already structured the book. Additionally, it is not a bad idea to define the headings and subheadings as it helps you a lot to navigate through the whole structure. Those headings, as well as a table of contents, will be probably edited later on, but the primary form will be useful as a guide. If you do not have the structure, you will easily lose the focus, and alternatively the will for writing. Tweaking comes at the end.

Respect the daily word count

This is the only to ensure that you write every day since you simply must write every day! Of course, there will be days when you are simply tired, or you have no inspiration, but you must fulfill the daily number of words you write. For that reason, do not set yourself eight thousand words per day, but rather something smaller that you can easily write. Not only you will finish your book on time, but you will also fulfill the everyday goal, and you will not lose your focus, will, and dedication to it. The point is in the consistency.

A realistic daily word count would be around 500-1000 words, in case you are not in a hurry. If it is your first book, give yourself enough time, as the writing is a creative process that requires imagination besides the hard work. The point is that you often write, not too much. Once you start fulfilling your daily word limit, you will feel much better and inspired. This leads to more creativity and stronger will that you need to finish your book.

Write every day

Consistency, as we said earlier, is the key to writing a book! As we said, you need to work on it every day, not to write a lot. That is the key thing in the whole matter – to ensure constancy for your work. Freelance political writing jobs require you to write political themes, and if you write a political book, it might be a good idea to try out some of these jobs just to get hands-on experience and focus. Depending on the topic you are writing, you might end up in the dead-end where you do not have any inspiration.

For this reason, start with the smaller number of words you write daily, and if you keep the consistency for a couple of weeks, try to raise the daily limit. Setting an unrealistic daily word limit is absurd, and you do not need that at all. Instead, make a realistic limit you need to reach every day, and you will ensure yourself consistency and focus.

Get feedback

Feedback is the golden rule that you need to follow if you want to produce a cool book that will get everyone’s attention. You can ask a professional reviewer to revise your book and advise you on the writing and changes that you might need. Alternatively, you can give your friends or family members the book so they could read it and see if there is anything that needs to be changed. The main goal is to extract the honest thoughts and opinions on your book, so you could know if you are going in the right direction. It is not only about the grammar errors, as you can correct these with Grammarly or TrustMyPaper but also about the style and the overall message of the book.

The best thing you can do is to pay a professional service or a distinguished book writer to review it and present his thoughts. This way, you will have the opinion of someone who is from the same industry, with a lot of experience. As we said, the goal is to produce an engaging, interesting, and useful book that readers will recommend. And there is no better way to get a sincere opinion than to get it from the experienced writer.

Be ready for failure

This is maybe one of the most important tips for all writers! It may be a hard one to accept that you are not a proficient writer and that you need a lot more work to become a good one. However, no one wrote a good book for the first time! Every writer had failures before came to the top and became a distinguished name. For that reason, embrace every failure and the negative comment you get, as it is also excellent feedback!

Also, make sure you do not copy-paste any content as plagiarism no one likes! Try to use Copyscape, for example, to check for the plagiarism and use Hemingway app or Studicus to detect hard-reading sentences. No one guarantees you will produce a good book from the first time, but you can be sure that the more you write, the better you become!
