Cannabidiol, the main ingredient in CBD Oil, is one of the 100 compounds known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. A related compound found in the same plant, which causes the “high”, is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive at all!

This non-psychoactive nature, along with CBD’s use as a natural remedy for various ailments has made it quite popular. It is appealing for those who want to opt for a method of natural and effective pain relief (or relief from other symptoms) without experiencing a high or any other significant side effects.

Today, we’re going to see some of the benefits of CBD and how it works in the treatment of different ailments.

One of the most common uses of CBD is pain relief. In fact, the use of marijuana in treating pain goes as far back as 2900 B.C. As recently as 2019, scientists have yet again published studies that prove that several compounds of marijuana, including CBD, have pain-relieving effects.

The most common course of treatment for anxiety and depression involve pharmaceutical drugs. Not only are there serious side effects associated with these drugs, but there also runs a risk of dependency or addiction to them. Some common side-effects include insomnia, sexual dysfunction, dizziness, headaches, cognitive impairment, weight, and weight gain, while benzodiazepines (which are used for the treatment of anxiety) are notorious for their addictive properties.

Not only has CBD oil shown promise as an alternative form of treatment, but it also does so with VERY few side effects. In fact, most individuals do not experience any side effects.

Due to CBD’s effect on the endocannabinoid system and other brain signaling systems, researchers have come to believe that it may be beneficial for those suffering from neurological disorders such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. In fact, studies have shown as much and while these studies may be relatively new and scarce, there is a promise of a bright future.

CBD  is also known to help reduce symptoms related to cancer treatment such as nausea, vomiting, and pain. In fact, one study went on to observe the effects of CBD and THC on those suffering from pain brought on by chemotherapy. These individuals had been given conventional pain medication but it had zero to little effect. After administering the CBD and THC, the scientists found a significant reduction in the pain.

Due to its effect on appetite, CBD also helps reduce nausea and vomiting which almost every individual going through chemotherapy experiences.

Although CBD has been observed as being well-tolerated and having very few side effects, it may have an adverse effect on the select few. Some common side effects such individuals experience include diarrhea, changes in appetite, fatigue, and lethargy. CBD is also known to interact with other medications so before you start taking CBD, its best to consult with your doctor if you’re already on medication.
