London six – piece, Mass Datura have announced details of a London headline show at the Sebright Arms on Hackney Road on Friday the 23rd of August 2019.
The live date sees the band line up of Thomas Rowe (guitar & vocals), Patrick Bartlett (drums), Joseph Colkett (bass), Alice Hubley (synths & mellotron), Leanne Roberts (violin) and The Horrors’ Joshua Hayward on pedal steel guitar supported on the night by garage punk outfit The Shadracks.
Formed nearly three years ago, Mass Datura have spent the last couple of months putting the finishing touches to their forthcoming second album with producer Nico Brusq at the Capitola Analogue studio in France.
The new long player is the eagerly awaited follow up to their acclaimed debut ‘Sentimental Meltdown’ from 2017 onAll Types Of Slime Records. Featuring the single ‘Dream Thief’, the album saw the band compared to Empire Of The Sun and Ezra Furman and play a celebrated spot at the Liverpool Psych Festival together with tours with Black Angels, A Place to Bury Strangers, Black Mountain and Greg Ashley.
Frontman Thomas Rowe writes surprising and playful songs that draw from an unusually broad patchwork of personal experiences. He grew up in a working-class family next door to a First Nations Reservation on Vancouver Island, became a sponsored skateboarder in San Francisco and is now a bespoke shoemaker in London. He has also published three books of his own idiosyncratic poetry and exhibited his collage art in galleries across the capital.
Mass Datura, named after the poisonous vespertine plants said to help witches levitate, will follow the London date by heading off to Europe to play in Sweden and Germany before returning in the Winter for UK shows to coincide with the announcement of the new album. More details to follow.
