INTERVIEW: MARTYPARTY

Hi Marty, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been fantastic. How have you been?

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lit”?

Of course love this beat – def a vibe.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My music is a diary of my life. At that time I was feeling happy and came on the string melody. Wanted to express the lush strings with a synth tone which is kinda what I do – interpret organic with digital to create the contrast in 4D.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes. Not a typical music video though – I have just started making music tutorial videos for my latest songs. I believe in full transparency and sharing within the music community. I’m not afraid to show exactly how I  made my music – I prefer it and hope to spread my knowledge of digital production on Abelton Live and music composition and with the next generation of emerging artists. We are all in this together. Let’s share and learn from each other.

How was the recording and writing process?

All on Ableton Live in my living room studio. That is one of the beautiful things about electronic production – you can do it anywhere and whenever inspiration strikes.  I kinda had a good idea of the arrangement in my head and just developed a lead with a few synth layers and effects and played the melody in a few takes. Came easy. The best songs do.

What made you want to seek for a slightly new direction on this track in particular?

I’m always making hip hop beats – that’s my passion and my love – I typically use electronic leads and chords instead of vocals. However, with “LIt” it was too good not to leave space for a vocalist. My dream is to work with and produce music for hip hop artists. I’m hoping a lot of bedroom rappers on Soundcloud and TikTok snap bars to Lit and post them.

After 8 albums – has it been easy to move into a new direction?

Yes, comes naturally to me – I always crave reinvention – the joy of music is the range of motion as an artist. Digital music is a revolution in creative freedom. I love merging analog and digital and genres to create a new sound that other young producers can get inspired to write. That’s what I do – inspire and invent. “Lit” is a perfect example of my new hip hop arrangement and Im moving in these directions as I mature as an artist. Excited to see where it takes me.

I’ve also started dripping music every week, instead of dropping it all at once.Follow the Spectacle Drip.  A new song every Friday till 2020. It is a mix of new tracks and songs from the 13 years journaling my life through music. MartyParty has gone in many directions and can not be defined to one genre. I am busy remastering and releasing together these MartyParty classics with the new beats.

After the great reception from your previous work – do you feel any pressure as you put together a new material or rather the opposite?

Honestly after doing this for a while you learn not to worry about it. It’s who I am and worrying makes zero difference. II roll forward with whatever makes sense at the time, and trust the destination will be something special.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! Lots of new material coming out. Dripping new songs every Friday.

Next, we have some epic tunes, “Pound Of Purp” coming up 8.23 this one is LARGE. It demonstrates my unique style of electronic hip hop arrangement perfectly – wait and listen you will get it! The Spectacle drip also showcases the range of my music from the softer, sexy  downtempo tracks like “Cozy” and “Lost In Thought” to an experimental deep bass house track with hip hop bridges and cross genre outros called “Belgium”. More slay beats coming – watch out Scott Storch and Mike Will 🙂

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Any plans to hit the road?
