INTERVIEW: Nick Nittoli

Hi Nick, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I have truly been amazing and very blessed! Thank you for asking!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Brand New”?

Absolutely. It’s my latest single off of my debut EP, and it’s really just a fun song talking about coming up out of hardships and overcoming struggles in my earlier days and rising to where I am now.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I would say that every event in my life inspired my to write this song, from not having a dollar to my name to coming up and signing my first deal, that every occurrence in my life has lead up to a song like “Brand New” and that there will be many more like it in the future.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Shooting a video for this next month! Very excited about it!

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording and writing process for me is the same. I work at Jim Henson Studios, pretty consistently, and when I am there, I am just playing tracks or samples that I produced earlier in the day back, and when I hear one that inspires me, it’s like something just takes a hold of me. I am powerless to the gods of music. They take over, and the rest is history. The one thing I will say that I focus on is always telling the truth or atleast attempting to portray my life in a way that is true to my upbringing or where I came from etc.

How do you go on blending and balancing your old school roots with your love for trap music?

I am an older cat, I have been in the game since 2011 so for me I think I can appreciate real hip-hop, and the real artists who came before me while still recognizing that the times have changed and that I have to stick with them. My music is current, with a hint of the old-school hip hop that I grew up with. 2 pac, Dead Prez, The Fugees, Lauryn Hill etc. I feel my music is paying homage to these greats while still keeping it fresh for the kids.

What have you learned from your time collaborating with other big and iconic names in the industry?

Everything. My idea was to learn how to produce and songwrite for the greats, and then step back and take a few notes to step my own game up. It worked. After working with artists like Snoop Dogg, and French Montana, I quickly gathered a few things that never forgot and continually kept moving forward and adding new lessons to my resume. Believing in yourself was the lesson that I learned the hardest and the most. That’s one thing that I lost for a while that has come back in a whole new light. I believe in me, now more than ever.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

When I work with other talents, I truly try to let them do what they do best in the room. I realize that we are both on a team, and that I usually tend to and like to be on the winning team. I hate losing, and a bad song or a song that goes no where to me, is a loss. So I try everything I can to allow the writers/producers and artists that I work with to feel free and open in their approach, and am always open to learning new methods, and perhaps stealing a trick or two from their book. When I am by myself, it’s a completely different process.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have so much new music coming out its insane! I will be releasing to full length EP’s by the end of 2020 and am working out details on a 3rd EP after that one as well as a mixtape of songs! I am a very busy bee.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

8.19.19 I will be releasing my single “No Problemz”, and then after that I will be releasing a song called “Someone” which is an acoustic track, with a very positive message about self-change and that will drop on 9.1.19 on all platform as well. I also have 2 brand new lyric videos dropping for both of those songs as well that I am pumped about!

Any plans to hit the road?

Literally my dream! But I want to do it in style. I don’t want to be on a bus with a bunch of dudes crammed into a cold situation in Utah! Lol! Right now, I am just planning more releases, music videos, more lyric videos and a bunch of new content on the way! Eventually, I think my music will be widespread enough to take my act on the road! Should I reserve some V.I.P tickets for you guys?

What else is happening next in Nick Nittoli’s world?

Well, after signing to Warner Chappell Music Publishing/ Bump Into Genius and Alan Melina & New Heights Ent. My goal is truly out-work my talent. There is a lot of history, and a long list of great talent that has come before me and I want to respect and honor that talent as best I can by being the hardest working guy on the job. I want to be the first one there and the last one to leave, and show my appreciation by working hard, and keeping my head down, and nose clean. I have recently picked up a ton of sponsorships recently and have made several posts on my instagram promoting companies and products that I endorse etc. And I have a new single coming out off Disco Wax Records from Jinco and Sam Bruno called “Wild Life” which will be released Sept.20th on all platforms, so I am pretty stoked about that as well. Definitely want to take the time to thank you guys for asking me to do this! Truly appreciate your support!
