Additionally, Caroline has released the official visual for “Ocean Of Tears.” The milky-hued video finds Caroline as a lovesick pirate on a lonely voyage in search of treasure: a beating heart. Co-directed by Caroline and Matt Copson, “Ocean Of Tears” is a suite of painterly vignettes, ending as all pirate tales do: with certain death.
Says Caroline, “I’ve had a longstanding crush on the pale color worlds of Monet’s snow paintings, and after visiting the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland this spring, was immediately inspired to morph those two zones into the perfect setting for ‘Ocean Of Tears’. After all, the song is wild and lonely…like a pirate’s heart.”
Released earlier this month, “Ocean Of Tears” was the last song written for Pang. A mercury-poisoned aria with hooks sharper than a tackle box, the track is a seamless melding of hard bass from Danny L Harle with twisted sheets of guitar from NYC experimentalist Eartheater. Says Caroline, “‘Ocean Of Tears’ is dedicated to the sharp pain of being in love with someone far away, and the maddening doubt that comes with it.” Written by Caroline Polachek, Nate Campany, and Kyle Shearer, “Ocean Of Tears” was produced by Caroline Polachek, Danny L Harle, and Valley Girl with additional production by A. G. Cook.
Pang is Caroline’s first solo album to be released under her own name. The album will feature lead track “Door,” along with “Ocean Of Tears” and “Parachute.” More details to come.
