Can you talk to us more about your latest single « Wide Awake » ?
Well this title is the first one out of the upcoming EP that we’re still working on.
It’s also kind of a twist in the way we see our music and where we’d like go next musically speaking.
Almost as if the band was born again through this song.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song ?
Indeed. Arthur, the singer and guitarist who’s usually writing the songs has been through a tough breakup with his girlfriend which eventually led to writing this song.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video ?
Well as any video we shot before it’s always rewarding personally as we learn from it.
This time the filmmaker was a friend and almost all of the crew (12 people) were friends except for
the dancers who eventually became ones. It was very tiring but so much fun at the same time.
I think we deserved that glass of champagne afterwards !
How was the recording and writing process ?
As we like to do, we recorded at a friend’s studio.
It took us about a month with session here and there as we couldn’t be working on it all the time with everyone’s schedule.
Arthur had the structure, the lyrics, the chords and the melody and then we arranged it all together to make it what it is today !
What role does Paris play in your music ?
Paris does not influence our music at all, it’s actually more british rock.
But being in this big city has its advantages. So many opportunities there, yet at the same time so many other musicians with the exact same goal.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along ?
Yes absolutely! “Wide awake “ is part of a new EP of six songs. Some of them we have already played live and others are completely new.
As we did with the first EP we’ll shoot a video for each one of them and treat them as singles rather than releasing the whole thing at once.
Any tentative release date or title in mind ?
We’re hoping to release a new song near the end of September, the music is almost finished, it’ll mainly depend on how soon we can shoot the video.
Any plans to hit the road ?
We have a few shows scheduled already indeed, and we have quite a lot of people asking us to come and play all around France so we’ll definitely try to organise venues in the other biggest city in France !
What else is happening next in After Ivory’s world ?
At the moment we are working on this new record, on a whole lot of administrative stuff for the website and digital distribution as well as the merch.
Otherwise the goal remains the same, write songs, record them, shoot them and play them live as much as we can.
We’d also love to try to come to England to perform in front of a different audience, maybe historically more opened to our music !
