INTERVIEW: Sounds and Scenarios

Hi Tyler, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

-Great, thanks for having me! Means the world.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Can’t Sleep At Night”?

-Can’t Sleep At Night is a song our bassist (Avery Jones) wrote about his insomnia, and how it ties into a past relationship that was toxic and unhealthy. It’s about how it’s so hard to move on from this kind of situation, even though you really want to.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

-That’s definitely an Avery question haha.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

-We’re in the works of planning one at the moment for a video! Keep your eyes peeled.

How was the recording and writing process?

-The writing process consisted of Avery showed me the lyrics, and I was super into them, and I was like “hey send me a voice memo when you get the chance.” I took a voice memo of his idea, started writing other guitar parts and reworked a couple of the lyrics, and then brought it to the other guys. We recorded the song as well as the rest of the EP with Mike Dwyer at Bunker Recordings in upstate NY! Super cool dude, really helped bring our vision to life.

Your music seems to draw from early 00s music a la Brand New or Taking Back Sunday – do any of them play a role in your writing?

-For sure! blink-182 was my favorite band all throughout high school, and so I took a lot of inspirations from bands like them, All Time Low, Mayday Parade, and blended a little bit of influence from modern bands like The Wonder Years and Knuckle Puck.

As you change your name – how has this influence your music or affected your sound?

-I think when we changed our name from No Faith to Sounds & Scenarios, I think we wanted to bring more realism into our stuff. Cause I mean, life is made up of different events  that happen in our lives. We kinda wanted to pay homage that way by being more honest yet metaphorical and poetic ala newer pop punk bands, where the lyricism is more raw and human.

How’s your new EP coming along?

-I think when we changed our name from No Faith to Sounds & Scenarios, I think we wanted to bring more realism into our stuff. Cause I mean, life is made up of different events  that happen in our lives. We kinda wanted to pay homage that way by being more honest yet metaphorical and poetic ala newer pop punk bands, where the lyricism is more raw and human.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

-New EP is finished! The process was great, loved working with Mike, and we’re really stoked to drop the whole EP! We drop it August 2nd!

Any plans to hit the road?

-We’ll be hitting the road between 8/2-8/4 in the New England/east coast area with our buds in Makeshift, other than that, no big plans to tour… yet…

What else is happening next in Sounds and Scenarios’ world?

-Just writing and playing shows. Maybe some new stuff next year? Who knows. Follow along on the journey and find out with us!
