Thank you for having me. Things have been going really well. The support and encouragement I’ve received from people all over the world is unbelievable and I am so grateful.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I’ll Be Me”?
“I’ll Be Me” is a song that is about being who you are and not letting others bring you down. We live in a world that can easily bring you down and this song speaks to that. Be yourself and don’t be afraid of what others may think.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
There have been times when I have simply not felt good enough. From being brought down by others, and even being brought down by my own fears of not being good enough. I’ve struggled with being my true self because of being afraid of what people might think of me. This song speaks about being confident in yourself, and not worrying about what others think. Everyone is struggling just like you are in this world, and we all need to stop comparing ourselves to others and worrying about making mistakes. The day we let go of our fears, is the day we will truly find ourselves.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I’m so excited that my Official Video for “I’ll Be Me” is out now! https://youtu.be/6SeU7tBEMWY It was so much fun to make, and the response has been overwhelming. I’m glad that I was able to have a video representation of the song because it really adds to the feeling of the song. I’m super happy with the outcome!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording process went a lot smoother than I thought it would. The environment in the studio was so relaxing, and I didn’t feel scared about anything. I was in my own zone, and wasn’t afraid to let loose and feel the music. The writing process was a lot of fun as well. It was a great experience from start to finish. I’ve always been a perfectionist, and I always want everything to be right. A lot of work went into this song to get it where I felt it delivered the message I wanted. I’m so happy with how it turned out, and all the support I’ve received with the song as well. I can’t wait to keep sharing my music with everyone.
What role does Canada play in your music?
Canada is a very diverse place and I’m so proud to be a part of our multi-cultural landscape. My new song exemplifies being yourself which I’m so happy is possible in our free country
What is it about the 70s and 80s that you find so fascinating?
What I find most fascinating about the 70’s and 80’s is how authentic, and real all the music and artists were. It was so full of energy. Each artist or band was very unique in their own way and touched many people. The music had a free spirit vibe to it which I really like. I enjoy new music also but I love going back in time and listening to the music that brought us here.
How has Shawn Mendes and Lynyrd Skynyrd influenced your writing?
Shawn Mendes is such a wonderful song writer and performer. He inspires me to write songs that people can connect with. When it comes to writing music I always try to have some organic instruments in my songs because that’s what I grew up listening to. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s detailed, down-to-earth lyrics and the tragedies they’ve overcome are truly inspiring. I recently saw the current lineup perform when they came to Winnipeg. They put on a fantastic show.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! I will be releasing a few more songs over the next few months.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I am super excited that my 2nd single is being released on August 16th. The title of the song is “Loyalty”. I am also planning a release of a 3rd song in the fall.
Any plans to hit the road?
Playing live is what I love the most about what I do. I am currently putting a show together. Going on the road would definitely be something I would love to do.
