Everything is great!! Every year I feel like a stronger and better version of myself.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Let It Be”?
I think this song really epitomizes my music. I want it to be happy and fun, but I also want it to have a lyrical element that leads to a little but of self-reflection.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The song came to mind after I went home one Christmas. I started to sort of see certain traits of myself in my parents, and one of them was perfectionism. So I think it’s a song to myself but also one that I hope others can use to relax and not worry about everything being so perfect.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was so great! I worked with Phe Philms who also did the video for “All In (Summer Song).” Doing a one take video was so tough–it takes more effort than you think to smile and perform while passing around papers!
How was the recording and writing process?
Recording was super easy–I worked with my good friend Wade Mulvihill which is always an absolutely great time. Writing all happened in my kitchen over some bacon I was frying!
What is it about The Bee Gees that you find so fascinating?
I just find The Bee Gees to be masters of the disco sound with their classic tracks. So when I decided to try a song with song with some 70’s flavor, I thought being inspired by them would be a great place to start.
Did you always intend to pay tribute to their song “Emotions”?
Actually now that I think about it, I did always have this in the plans. I love the vulnerability on the song and the soft and comforting arrangement of the music.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
It definitely does! The new material is coming along great. I just have to record a few more songs and then you’ll be hearing a slew of new music from me!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
It will be a bunch of different singles. They’re going to show a few more sides of my artistry and also take me a little bit more into the contemporary realm.
Any plans to hit the road?
No road plans yet, but I have a show on 8/15 at 7pm at Rockwood Music Hall. New Yorkers come through!
What else is happening next in Xav A.’s world?
More and more music, more collaborations, and hopefully much more performing to come!
