The eyes are your portal to the world. That said, people should start taking eye care seriously, considering the fact that many Americans suffer from age-related blindness. And although technology such as laser eye surgery can always provide easy solutions for restoring sight, it doesn’t necessarily mean we shouldn’t take the time to care for our eyes until it’s too late.

Of course, you can always buy medication that’s supposed to give you clearer eyesight, but it’s still best to use more natural means. There are, in fact, many safer, healthier, more practical, and less expensive approaches to give your eyes the best care they deserve.

During the season of sun, light clothing and sunscreen with the right amount of SPF are the most common items to have. Apart from protecting yourself from sunburn and dehydration, you should also think of protecting your eyes from the harsh ultraviolet rays. If your eyes are very sensitive to sunlight, you should aim to buy sunglasses that block out at least 90% of UV light. You can also opt for transitional eyeglasses that darken when exposed to sunlight. This will help you switch between sunglasses and clear lenses with ease.

If you’ve been wearing prescription eyeglasses or have a history of eye ailments, you will have to consider getting regular checkups at a local clinic. Otherwise, a yearly visit may do. For people who are past the age of 60, finding reliable eye care services becomes a necessity. You just have to look for an ophthalmology clinic that’s equipped with state-of-the-art technology to give you the best care you deserve.

  1. Give your eyes a break

Whether you’re working at the office or managing a home-based business, your eyes could easily stress themselves out from too much screen time. Swelling and tearing are just some of the signs that your eyes need a break. You need to rest your eyes before these symptoms set in, so give yourself a 30-minute respite from your computer screen. You might want to look at green plants, as they are said to have a calming effect on your eyes.

Don’t think that the food you eat doesn’t affect your eyes. Your diet could either boost your eyesight or diminish it, so you might want to pick your meals carefully. There are various foods that can help achieve optimum eyesight and prevent diseases that could cause future eye problems. For dessert, you can have citrus fruits like lemons and oranges instead of sugary treats like cake and cookies.
