Q – Hi Nadette, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

A – Hey guys! I’m good – I’m feeling in a good place right now – thank you for taking this time to get to know me. I’m really excited with the releases and love towards them so far. Got so much to put out into the music world. Creating constantly it’s all a really good vibe.

Q – Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Self Love”?

A – Yeah sure, Self Love is the first official single release off my E.P it’s a really positive message – I got inspired by so many situations from personal experiences and from close ones. I sat back one day thinking of how fast paced this world is. How we get caught up doing everything but not always putting ourselves first. I wanted to remind us all that self love is our best investment. It came naturally for me to write it – almost like I had to get this message out there!

Q – Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

A – So many but not one in particular – I guess we all see things and feel situations. I see a lot of us getting effected by the media world especially social media people are living their lives through it. Not feeling good enough etc. I wanted to remind people that just being yourself is enough. Anxiety and depression is extremely high and we don’t all know how to deal with it. The most important thing is finding the things that make us happy naturally – removing as many toxic things out of lives. And giving that self love some priority.

Q – Any plans to release a video for the track?

A – Yeah I created a video for Self Love it’s out on YouTube loved making this video wanted to capture some moments of self love and show a liberating side to it – it was my first official video and I just know each video to come will be different and something to look forward to!

Q – The single comes off your new album Nadette Vol. 1 – what’s the story behind the title?

A – It’s self entitled – I wanted to leave it that way as an introduction into more releases – my albums will have themed titles.

Q – Would each volume follow a different theme?

A – Each volume will definitely have a story to it. Each project I create will have the same vein running through it but I’m always creating different styles. Every release may surprise people. I never get bored creating music and always trying different things. It’s whatever I’m feeling – if it sounds and feels good to me I gotta sit down write and get it made. I have to feel something the melody has to get me emotionally.

Q – Would you call this a sort of conceptual record?

A – I’d say this E.P is about many aspects of love. Love in many forms.  With others and yourself. It’s all from a good place though. You’ve gotta let that love in.

Q – How was the recording and writing process?

A – Very intimate – recorded and written in a bedroom. I am fully involved from start to finish I love the process. I’ve been writing from a  very young age. Teaching myself I’ve fully wanted to be involved with every aspect. I met my partner through music also and he’s been producing a long time. I started teaching myself music production off a garage band app before we’d met and when we first started talking that’s the songs I had that I’d been trying to create myself. I then have learnt a lot about Logic Pro x and since then he’s taught me so much about production. Riddle  check him out if you’ve not already. Throughout the recording it’s been myself and him and yeah he’s listened and taught me a lot. Working with others is great you inspire each other and help each step out of comfort zones. It’s important to grow as an artist and I feel I really have in creating this E.P infact I’ve not stopped there is a lot more to come. I love songwriting it’s my therapy.

Q – How your upbringing does influence your music?

A – My family is huge and I’ve blessed to have been around so many musicians growing up. My family is one side Maltese one side English Irish. I’ve grown up around jamming sessions my whole life. All genres I’ve performed from a young age and they have guided me to this day with their advice and support. It’s a good mix different cultures have inspired me always.

Q – How has Daft Punk and Marvin Gaye influenced your writing?

A – I love the experimental side to Daft Punk they are so out there and excite me with every release. I’d love to work with them one day. I love music and imagery where I totally relate to it and where they do the unexpected they 100% do that. Marvin Gaye warms my soul gives me the nostalgic family feeling. It’s a classic era very rare to hear that these days. It’s still out there. Just raw and unique. Real soul.

Q – What aspect of your own life did you get to explore on this record?

A – Experiences of love. I’ve learnt a lot through making this E.P I’ve grown a lot as person throughout it. I know where I should be. Creating this has confirmed it.

Q – Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

A – I get inspired by different things sometimes it can literally be the melody I’ll start humming then lyrics come out of nowhere. It is a crazy thing to feel – sometimes you literally think where did that come from. Yet the emotion – lyrics and the melody/beat they become together. It is addictive.

Q – Any plans to hit the road?

A – This is my goal I want to tour forever haha! It’s my purpose – I’ve dreamt of it since I can remember – since I was 3 years old sat on my Dads shoulders watching Tina Turner I genuinely new then – I wanted to be up there. Can not wait to hit the road very soon.

Q – What else is happening next in Nadette’s world?

A – Next up is a making of a new video the second song release.  Main focus getting my E.P out there as much as possible. Touring and being in a situation where music is helping me see the world and meeting the people supporting the journey I’m on. I can’t thank everyone enough. It means a lot.
