Unsigned singer-songwriter Luke Burr has been catapulted into the iTunes and Shazam chart off the back of one sync on ITV’s Love Island. He has previously been tipped as one to watch on the UK music scene after years of grafting and self-funding his career on the music circuit. Luke has knocked global music stars Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello off the top spot on the Shazam chart after less than 2 minutes of his new single ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’ being played on Thursday evening’s Love Island show. ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’ is the perfect demonstration of Luke’s truly unique and soulful vocal ability. This week alone, Luke has attracted support from the likes of Apple, Spotify, Shazam, BBC Introducing and Huw Stephens at Radio 1. Luke is continuing to climb the airplay, streaming and download charts with this truly unique demonstration of the power of primetime sync and the opportunities it brings.
Luke had amassed over 25,000 Shazams of his single, sending it straight into the Shazam chart and storming into the iTunes chart (at no.22), before Thursday’s Love Island show had even finished. Luke has been described by music media and industry execs as a raw mix of ‘early Amy Winehouse meets John Legend’. He writes all his own material and this track was written and recorded in his bedroom in Essex.
While on the music circuit, Luke has worked and toured with some huge industry names which has helped him establish his unique and spellbinding signature sound. Luke was hand-picked to be the main male vocalist on tour with Rudimental, which saw him play to sold out venues both in Europe and Australia. However, up until now, Luke has not charted or had any commercial or mainstream recognition as a singer-songwriter.
Speaking of his overnight success, Luke Burr said:
“For a song I made in my bedroom to be played in millions of other people’s homes is a dream come true. Working so hard without being heard can be tough as an independent artist but to get a break like this and have my voice introduced to so many people is amazing. I want to make the most of this moment and build on it.”
Watch closely because, at only 23, Luke Burr is set to cement himself as a key industry name this year; in the studio and onstage, both sides of the pond.
