INTERVIEW: Comb The Desert

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’re good! Thank you for having us here.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Essential Spoils”?

Its one of the newest tracks we’ve written. We really dig it. It’s a good song with lyrics we can connect with our fans on.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I think were just sick of watching our friends and adversaries alike carry on social media they way they have been. Dont be a follower and spew someone else’s garbage. Lifes too short for that.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

It was unexpected to be honest. We were supposed to play a show the day we filmed it. When we found out the show was cancelled, we called our friend Evan up to see if he was available for a photo shoot. Well it became a video shoot  instead! The entire process was done simple and low budget. It fun and fast as hell. No extra scenes had to be filmed or crazy costumes or anything like that. It was all about the music.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process took place a couple years before we started recording. It was slow going because we were just enjoying playing live and promoting our first record ‘Humannoyed’.  Once we had our solid 5 songs well rehearsed, we decided on working with Scot Moriarty.  The recording process took about 3 days of tracking and about a week of short vocal sessions. We were a big fan of his work as much as he was of us. His attention to detail and the way he mixes on different consoles in different places really intrigued us.

What role does NJ play in your music?

New Jersey is everything. There are so many large venues and fantastic underground venues which enables our band to really capture a well rounded audience.  There is so much talent in NJ that it’s not a shock that so many hardcore and punk bands find success. This isnt just a shout to all the hard working musicians but to the fans, sound guys, photographers,  and promoters as well for helping these artists get there.

How has Motorhead and Queens of the Stone Age influenced your writing?

Motorhead and Queens have this mystique and draw surrounding them that we dont really know about as fans. Rock artists that become successful like this intrigue us.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

You are correct  in that assumption. Very soon!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The new EP titled Middle Middle Vocal Chord is gonna be released very soon. On August 9th to be exact. It will be available on all digital platforms worldwide.

Any plans to hit the road?

For now we are sticking with just playing  great shows locally and regionally.  Our next appearance is on Kohlfest in Reading PA on August 17th.

What else is happening next in Comb The Desert’s world?

We are just enjoying the hype and the rest of the summer. More fun news to come soon. Get outside yall!
