Upcoming Adapted Movies From Popular Video Games

Video game movies are a huge deal for gaming enthusiasts. After all, seeing your beloved character on the movie screen is a dream come true for many gamers. Although there have been several mishaps in the market which failed to bring the games to the movie screen like BioHazard and Halo, some movies are still in various stages of development and will likely become big-budget video game adaptations in the coming future! Let’s take a look!

This movie has been filled with controversies and rumours since 2010. First, it was rumoured that Mark Wahlberg will play the role of Nathan Drake. His co-stars will be Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. But the rumoured plot lines and drama soon faded away with time. Coming to 2019, it has been confirmed that the game will be adapted into a movie in the coming years. What’s more, Tom Holland will be playing the role of Young Nathan. With director Shawn Levy in charge and writer Joe Carnahan, the movie future looks promising. Chris Pratt is rumoured to take up the role of Sully. As Tom Holland Said,” Because if it was an older movie, I would say that Chris should play Nathan, but I think he would be a cool Sully, and I love working with Chris, so if I could work with Chris some more that would be great.” Some rumours even speculate Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston to play the role of Sully. Now, that will be amazing!

Sonic the hedgehog

This is a classic and will drop this year on November 7, 2019! What else can you expect from Sega – a  new live-action adaptation of our favourite gaming racer, Sonic! Although some fans have condoned the initial design of the character, the movie production house has promised to change the design before the release date. The new poster and the trailer has sparked innumerable memes on the internet, which just goes on to show how popular the character is among the gaming community. Jim Carrey features as the villain Dr Ivo Robotnik and the title roles are been headed by Rec star Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and Parks.

Call of Duty

That’s true fellows! Time to bring in the big guns because Activision has decided to squeeze some moolah out of its blockbuster franchise, Call of Duty. This is a dream come true for many fans and the movie is said to be in a very early stage of development. After Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Stefano Sollima has decided to direct this movie by taking Kieran as the writer on board. Solima said, “Not a war movie, but a soldier movie, I think that this is what I will do. I think it’s a missing part. [There have recently been] some movies [about] soldiers, but only some of them are masterpieces. I think I miss modern [soldier movies] as an audience.”

Tomb Raider 2

After the immense success of Tomb Rider, (thanks to Angelina Jolie), Warner Bros. and  MGM have hired Amy Jump to write the next sequel of this franchise. Although the plot is heavily under wraps, the next iteration of the movie is believed to draw some ideas from the game lore just like the previous part. Reportedly, Alicia Vikander is signing up as the main protagonist of the story.

The Last of Us

This movie might not make it on screen anytime soon. As Spider-Man and Evil Dead veteran Sam Raimi said in an interview in 2016, “’I’m attached to it. I’m not too sure what that means, Right now it’s just sitting there. They don’t want to move forward, and it’s not my place to say why, and Neil, I think, is in a slight disagreement with them about how things should go so there’s a standstill. And I don’t have the power to move it.” Recent news shows that the movie story might not be good enough to attract audiences.  The writer of the movie, Neil Druckmann told that he wants some separation from the movie for the time being as he does not want the movie to be made honestly! Now that’s something! Only time will tell if this project sees the light of day.
