Yoyo Nosa is an artist, songwriter, singer on the rise. Currently residing in Los Angeles, we caught up with Yoyo to learn more about her upcoming projects and summertime plans. Read on!
Thank you for joining us Yoyo, could you take a few minutes to tell our readers more about your beginnings in the industry?
My musical beginnings started at the age of 5 when I auditioned for a Las Vegas musical theater company. After landing my first role with them as one of the twins in Peter Pan, I knew the stage was where I felt most at home. I went on to be in several more theater productions, and began professionally recording children’s music by the age of 12.
Where do you see your career taking you within the next ten years?
Within the next 10 years, I see myself performing at an Essence or Solblume Festival. It would be a dream come true to grace their stages, and be surrounded by like-minded neosxoul creatives. I also hope to grow my fan-base exponentially, and to have implemented the transferable skills being in the industry has taught me in other aspects of my life.
Tell us more about the inspirations behind your writings.
I write from experience. I always aspire to tell a story through song that’s authentic to who I was, who I am, and the woman that I’m becoming. Listeners connect best to music when the artist’s energy is aligned to the story they’re telling. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for my new “Honeymood” EP dropping this September!! It’s a special story about the journey of The Honeymoon Phase.
What is the story behind your HOTT new single TRUST YOU?
My latest single, “Trust you” started out as a joke in the studio actually with my new producer Nolow. I came into the studio one day ranting about how sick I was of random guys “sliding in my DMs”. I’m really old-school when it comes to the whole dating scene, and I just can’t emotionally-attach myself to someone who isn’t bold enough to approach me in person. What will you be up to this summer?
This summer I’ve been all over! I spent some time in China, Washington D.C., and Canada working on different projects. I’m also a huge humanitarian, so I take pride in being able to be a part of missions that are bigger than myself.
What have been your most memorable shows so far?
My favorite place to perform is at The Pocket LA on Tuesday nights. The crowd’s energy is always warm and inviting. A good number of neosoul artists flow through their space, so that’s another place that always feels like home to me.
