Hi VENTS! I’m good thanks, and thank you for having me.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “stuck inside my throat”?
Stuck inside my throat is my debut single! The song is about being in a positive and supportive relationship. I’m so excited to release the song and see what people think of it!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not really a single event; the song is about the ways that me and my partner build a platform for each other so that we can be vulnerable enough to perform, she’s an actor and I’m a musician, whilst feeling safe in our mutual support for each other.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes, we will be dropping a video for the single a couple of weeks after the main release …
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote this song pretty quickly over a couple of sessions, some come easy and this was one of them! Taking it into the studio was great, I’m working with a brilliant producer at the moment. We are on the same page which makes being in a creative space very exciting and fun!
My major influence in writing acoustic music has been Damien Rice, his album ‘O’ has played a big part in my life. At the time that was released I was writing indie punk rock music. I guess I was just taken aback by the sensitivity and connection that his music had. I bought an acoustic guitar and started to write. Vance Joy is more on the Pop spectrum but this is also something that has influenced me, I want to blend pop and folk so that it’s touching and also catchy!
What role does Yorkshire play in your music?
I think Yorkshire has an honest and simple beauty and I definitely want to emulate that. Being honest about the stories I want to tell and the way in which I do that has sometimes been been a challenge but I’m proud of my roots and simply wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t spent most of my life there!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I do plan to get back in the studio with some more material. I’d like to aim for an EP or LP next, I already have some material to use but I’m constantly writing new songs.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The release date of Stuck Inside My Throat will be the 19/07/19!
Any plans to hit the road?
I don’t have any tours booked yet, I’ll be concentrating on gigging in and around London to start with. I’m looking forward to my next performance on the night of my release. I’ll be having close friends and family coming together to celebrate the song release so of course I’ll be performing a set on the night!
What else is happening next in Jon Plant’s world?
My next big focus is to get back in the studio and get started on that EP/LP but before that I plan to head off to France for a surfing holiday and maybe get some mountain biking done before the winter comes back!!
