Dayana releases debut EP ‘Statements’

Threading together elements of fantasy and mysticism with a politically charged outlook that’s fuelled by female empowerment, rising rock act Dayana share their debut EP ‘Statements’.

After working tirelessly for two years, Dayana are ready to share the first realisation of their unique musical vision with the world. ‘Statements’ is an introduction to one of the UK’s most imaginative indie-rock acts, weaving together themes as disparate as fantasy, politics, and romance with expertise far beyond their years. With thoughtful lyrics that read like a novel, Dayana craft musical worlds coloured with drama, intrigue and heartbreak, speaking to universal experiences shared by all of us.

‘Astray’ opens up the EP with a rousing refrain, outlining a fantasy story described by the lead vocalist and songwriter as “like a book I’m writing, and that’s just the start.” This is a stunning opener that kicks things off with one of the most exhilarating choruses you’ll hear this year. ‘Give Me My Money’ keeps things moving with a martial drum-beat and electrifying guitar, showcasing a side of Dayana’s sound that leans towards classic rock, grunge and punk as they let loose on their instruments.

‘Could You Tell Me’ brings the volume low and the emotions high as Dayana put themselves in the shoes of a man whose country has been torn apart by war, painting a deeply empathetic portrait through lyrics and sound. ‘Can’t Help It’ summons a soulful, smoky vibe with guitar licks and vocal turns that recall contemporary R&B and soul before a stirring chorus worthy of Amy Winehouse raises the roof once more.

The EP’s closing track, ‘Not For You’, is a sonic revolution. The track sends a defiant message of freedom and empowerment, shouting out: “you’re not taking over me.”
