Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey thanks for having us! We’ve been amazing. We just got a new place in LA and you can literally see the Hollywood sign from our living room. It’s crazy. Very grateful.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “westside”?

“westside” is our second single. Our first single was “hollywood”. “Westside” originally was inspired by the song “Eastside” by Benny Blanco, Khalid, and Halsey. I wanted our own take on that song. Hence the opposite name “westside” 🙂

I wanted to write a romantic and nostalgic song that made me feel like I was a kid in the summers again.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I remember going home from college in the summers. My friends and I would drive around aimlessly and ride our bikes through our hometown. Sometimes we’d have girlfriends and we would take them to all of these special spots that were ours. There was this romantic and nostalgic feeling to all of it. Especially now when I look back on it. It was a young and innocent time in our lives when we would stay out all night and make out under the stars. I wanted to create that feeling in a song.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, we found some amazing locations on the westside of LA where we want to shoot. Still messing around with some concepts though!

How was the recording and writing process?

We actually wrote the song in less than 30 minutes in my bedroom, but spent at least 20 hours in the studio making sure the production was perfect. It started with the guitar chords in the verses. I wrote and recorded it in my bedroom, put the guitar on loop, and within 30 minutes had all of the lyrics and melodies to the song except for the hook. Next time we were in the studio, we literally used the exact recording from my bedroom as the foundation and verses of the song. That same recording from my bedroom is still in the song today! We then wrote the hook in the studio and our producer, Cameron Hale, brought the whole thing to life with synth and drums. Right before we finished, we decided to add a big guitar solo at the end. It took one take to do the guitar solo and I’m so happy we added it!

What role does LA play in your music?

Los Angeles is a huge inspiration for us visually. Pink Roses is an extremely visual band. When I listen to music, I always see a visual representation in my mind. We want Pink Roses, especially “westside”, to give you that sensation of driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, with the top down, the ocean breeze in your hair, and the sunset over the horizon line. I love movies and I want to create a very cinematic and visual experience with our music..

What is it about the 80s that you find so fascinating?

Even though I wasn’t alive in the 80’s, I always get this sense of nostalgia anytime I hear 80’s music or see 80’s fashion or 80’s movies. We want our music to bring that same sense of nostalgia to our fans. It’s like a longing for a memory that doesn’t exist or a time we haven’t experienced yet it feels so familiar.  I also feel like a lot of culture today has aspects of the 80’s including tech, fashion, and music. I feel really grateful to be a part of culture right now.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! We just finished our third single. It’s called “dont give up on me”. It is hands down our best yet and it is super emotional.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Probably late August. Maybe with a music video for it too. The title is “dont give up on me”

Any plans to hit the road?

We would love to get some opening slots with some of our favorite bands like LANY, The 1975, The Band CAMINO, Valley, joan, and other artists in that realm. If any of them are writing this DM me 🙂

What else is happening next in Pink Roses’ world?

Last year we wrote 100 songs together, before we were even a band. Now we are writing another 30 songs over the next 2 months and will be recording a 5 song EP in September/October. We are in the process of planning some music videos. Outside of that we will probably play a few shows in LA, NYC, and SF.
