The Confirmed Sequels of Much-Anticipated Movies Already in the Works

The movies that you fall in love over and over again have been given another chance at the big screen. The stories that affected you so much that you shed tears, and that kept you hitting the play button a hundred times, are making a comeback to continue the perennial characters that you adored big time. What can be better news than to know that the cameras are rolling, casting has been made and pre-production is in the works for a sequel of your favorite movie playlist?

While you might be antsy to see the full-length feature with an extra large popcorn and a liter of soda, I bet you’d be happy enough just to read a press release, a simple tweet or a fan-made trailer all teasing you to prepare all of your heart for another big-screen experience in the next few months or years. From superhero films that created various cinematic universes to sci-fi movies with pipe rehabilitation packers, the entertainment industry is packing in tons of stories and new characters for at least another installment.

Here is a rundown of the upcoming sequels that will keep you pleasurably waiting, guessing and reading for updates.

Black Panther

Wakanda Forever! Were you chanting too when  Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that a Black Panther sequel is on the writing table? The executive has already expressed his and Marvel’s intentions to continue the story after the movie’s release last year. Rumors also surfaced that Michael B Jordan will be returning, thus resurrecting the Erik Killmonger character who was killed in the first film. The new foray into the world of Wakanda does not have a release date yet, but Feige broke the news that Ryan Coogler is at the helm working on the script as well as directing the sequel.

Avatar

At last, the world’s highest grossing film is finally having a release date after years of silence and ten years since the release of the initial installment. The epic sci-film film directed by film genius James Cameron has been expanded to not just one but four separate films. News reports released that we will be seeing the magnificent world of Pandora soon, as the second movie is set to premiere in December 2021.

This long-anticipated sequel has not yet revealed its storylines, but the main characters of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana have been assured to be reprised. Cameron noted that all Avatar films will be released in 3D and for sure the director-producer is going to add another blockbuster film to his billion-dollar list. While the 2009 film still holds the no. 1 spot, Marvel and Disney are bent on taking the crown by re-releasing Avengers: Endgame, with $22 million separating the two.

Bourne 6

Another chapter is going to unfold as rumors are spreading about Jason Bourne hitting the big screen with Matt Damon reprising the role and Jeremy Irvine revealed to be a great addition. The entire series of the action spy film has already raked in $1.6 billion in box-office success and has been critically acclaimed as well. In 2017, Damon hinted at a possible new movie that will conclude the hit series.

The Croods

There has been buzz that Disney’s Pixar will hold any sequel after Toy Story 4. But, fellow animators have been busy continuing the stories of beloved animated films including the prehistoric family from Dreamworks Animation’s The Croods. Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone will return with newbies Peter Dinklage and Leslie Mann. In 2013, Dreamworks had announced a sequel to the movie but stalled its release and everyone thought the sequel is dead in the water.

Crazy Rich Asians

The crazy project rich in Asian actors has been hailed as the best romantic comedy in 2018 and the highest grossing rom-com film in a decade. The film, based on a book series by Kevin Kwan, is going to have another run at the big screen after its mega-hit first film. The sequel will follow the second book’s story, China Rich Girlfriend, and is still casting the key Asian actors, although several of them have committed to other projects. The good thing though is both the second and third installments will be filmed back-to-back to reduce the waiting time between the two. As of now, no clues have been given yet as to the tentative release dates.

For sure, you will be happy to know that these great movies are making a big-screen comeback. You can keep your hopes up that the films will push through whether they measure up or not. The best thing for now is that you’re certain your favorite characters and stories are going to be brought to life once more. And entertainment is sweeter the second time around.
