Welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been doing really well! So far, it’s been a mix of relaxing, practicing, and eagerly awaiting our next tour.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Stars About You”?

The day we recorded this song was actually one of the first days that we had spent together as a band, and as soon as we heard the demo track, we all went crazy. It sounds like a quintessential boy band song, and we hope everyone thinks so too haha. All in all, we’re so proud of the finished product.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes actually, we filmed it right after we recorded the track! It should be released at or around the same time. Here’s a hint for the video concept: ALIENS!!

How was the recording process?

Ah man, it was amazing. We got to record it at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, which is the same studio Michael Jackson recorded “Thriller” and “Billie Jean” at. The process was so smooth, it didn’t even feel like we were working. We got the whole thing recorded in like 6 hours. And when one person was recording, the other three of us were probably eating 😂 (eerm… JP 😉)

What was it like to work with Bryan Todd and DQ? How did those relationships develop?

Bryan and DQ are basically the dream team when it comes to creating a song. When we come into the studio, Bryan has this master plan for how to record the song and manages to share his visions with us so we can get to work immediately. DQ is a musical genius and has worked with Backstreet Boys, so he knows exactly how a guy group should blend. Seeing two great minds in the pop world go back and forth and create such amazing art is a wonderful thing to be involved in. It inspires us to work at 110%.

With so much creative minds on the studio and writing process – how do you go splitting the duties and sharing the inputs?

Each time we record it’s a little different. But usually, we have a vocal producer (in most cases it’s DQ) who is amazing at picking out the best voice for each part. They also come up with great ideas for harmonies and encourages us to try some ad-libs. We’re honestly lucky to have such a collaborative team with every writer and vocal producer we’ve worked with thus far. When any of us have an idea or suggestion, we always feel listened to — even if our idea isn’t used. We can’t remember one time that we’ve left the studio without being inspired or excited. It’s really a privilege that none of us take for granted.

Is it easy to blend and balance all your different personalities together?

Absolutely! We like to compare ourselves to the Spice Girls, since we have such versatile personalities that work really well together. For example, Luc is like Posh Spice, Peet is a bit crazy, Owen is like a Bohemian weightlifter, and JonPaul is Elvis! We fully embrace our individual looks, and that helps fans relate to us. We’ve found that it actually works perfectly. Except the drama starts when we finally have a morning off while on tour, and Owen insists on us being in the gym at 7am 🙄

Coming from and through your tour getting to meet different cultures – how does this influences your music as a whole?

Being able to travel to so many different countries is such a blessing. We get to share who we are and our love for music with so many amazing different people, and that motivates us, which increases our energy and creativity in the recording and performing process. It really opens our eyes to a new side of life and how our music can impact so many people. It’s a joy and an amazing opportunity to go around and influence so many people with our music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

The single is just the start of so many songs we can’t wait to share with our fans around the world. We are really excited and so ready to show the world what 5WEST is really made of.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Our single “Stars about you” is currently scheduled to be released in September.

Any plans to hit the road?

We’ll be back in the UK in August! We’ve got a few things in the works right now, so stay tuned for specifics soon!

What else is happening next in 5WEST’s world?

Some pretty incredible things coming… we’ll share when we can! And that you guys better be ready for 5WEST’s takeover in 2020! 😉
