Sam said on the meaning behind the track, “I was in a long-distance relationship and we’d FaceTime and I could tell something was wrong. When I fall in love, I make sure I know the person inside and out — I know when they’re lying, I know when they’re upset, I know when they say they’re okay but they’re really not. I didn’t want to push, but I got really nervous that something was wrong. I was feeling vulnerable, so I wrote a song about it to get it off my chest.”

Sam began her career in music by attending Berklee College of Music, playing gigs to pay tuition. After graduation she was invited to a co-writing session in New York. Two years and a move to Los Angeles later, that song, “Broken,” was a hit for lovelytheband.” The track spent 9 weeks at #1 on the Alternative chart and broke Billboard chart history as the longest running song on the chart at 76 total weeks. “Broken” opened the door for Sam as a songwriter, scoring her new writing sessions and a publishing deal withWarner/Chappell.

Sam is set to appear on NBC’s new hit show Songland later this season.
