INTERVIEW: Shyra Sanchez

Hi Shyra, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great. I’m so excited to be interviewed by VENTS! You guys are amazing.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Universal Love”?

I’d love to! The idea for “Universal Love” came from my belief that people should be accepting, accepted, and treated with respect. Diversity makes life beautiful and we should celebrate our differences. We should allow people to live the life they want, as long as they’re not preventing others from doing the same. Many of these ideas have been around for a long time, but I feel that “Universal Love” can serve as a reminder to embody something greater.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

No, I’d say that this song is a reflection of many events. We’ve all had numerous experiences with people trying to bring you down. But we’ve also experienced grace and positivity. I just want to tip the scale towards goodness – I think we can always progress in that direction.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

It was so much fun shooting this video! We were very lucky to have so many talented, capable people on set. Once we had everything story-boarded out, the actual filming went flawlessly. I really have to give the crew and actors a big shout-out, they were so enthusiastic about the concept and it really shows in the final product.

How was the recording and writing process?

The creative process is always humbling and rewarding. It was an exciting experience and it’s always nice when you can work with people who share similar values.

What was it like to work with TRAIG and how did that relationship develop?

It’s always a rewarding experience to help out up and coming artists. When he approached me to help him create this track, I immediately connected with the concept and message.

How much did he get to influence the song?

Whenever I’m working with another artist I try and make sure that the division of labor is 50/50. I feel that this song represents both of us equally.

What role does LA play in your music?

This is the most diverse city in the world. Meeting so many different people from different walks of life is very educational. You never run out of stories or creative opportunities in this town. And you also get to work with some of the best talent in the world. I’m blessed to live and work here.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Of course! I write and produce everyday. I have a large collection of new songs across many different genres that I can’t wait to share. Keep your eyes open, I’ll have more stuff by the end of the year.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes I’m planning to do a few dates this year and 2020.

What else is happening next in Shyra Sanchez’s world?

I love to keep busy! I’m finishing up a script which has generated a lot of interest, I have new designs coming out for my clothing line @shyfit and of course I’m continuing my music.
