Today, multi-platinum, award-winning recording artist EmeliSandé MBE releases new single Shine taken from her stunning upcoming new album Real Life, out September 13th.
Harking back to an era of soul classics, Shine is Emeli’s most empowering and inspiring single to date. Opening with Motown-esquepercussion, there’s the addition of joyous piano chords alongside Emeli’s soaring vocals and the uplifting feel of a gospel choir.
The accompanying music video was directed by Sarah McColgan (H.E.R, Charli XCX, Miguel, Sean Paul) and shot in Los Angeles. The clip stars Emeli and her sister Lucy, and showcases the close bond between the pair, while also embodying the fun, freewheeling sensibilities of the track. Watch the video here
The track is emblematic of the rest of Real Life, which is an album all about finding your inner power. Speaking about the record, Emelisaid: “With this album, I knew exactly what I wanted to say and do. I just want to give people this incredible superpower every time they play the album. Like a battery pack – by the end of the album they’re going to feel restored”
Real Life is an album recorded following an intense personal journey of self-doubt and self-discovery that marks a brand-new chapter for Emeli, and with it a bold, confident and fearless new sound. Feeling attuned with the disenfranchised state of the world, Emeli’svision for Real Life is to give people hope and confidence.
Emeli is pleased to announce her debut performance at this year’s Manchester Pride festivalon 24th August. Emeli said, “I’m so pleased to be able to play my first ever Pride in the city of Manchester. Being able to support the LGBT+ community at such a prestigious event means a lot to me and it’s an honour to be able to perform with so many other amazing artists on the bill. I really hope Manchester is ready for what we have in store as I couldn’t be more excited.”
