INTERVIEW: NOA

Hi Noa, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hii!! Thank you so much. Everything has been amazing. Just got back from some time in Europe where I did lots of writing sessions, so I’m feeling super refreshed and very happy to be back in action in Toronto!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Hypocritical”?

I’m so happy and very excited that Hypocritical is finally out in the world for you all to listen to. Right after we wrote it I knew this had to be my next single. I always write to give others a voice through my music, and I felt that this single was super relatable especially for anyone who’s ever gone through a breakup!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

As you can probably tell by the opening lyrics of the song, I wrote this song about my breakup aftermath. I wanted the song to embody an internal post breakup monologue as I reflected and walked through the motions of my thoughts. The night before the writing session when we wrote Hypocritical, I had just come back from a date with this awesome guy, but when I got home and opened Instagram I saw all of these IG stories from my ex with all these new girls. Naturally my initial reaction was me thinking about how I didn’t want him to be moving on. But in reality, I realized these thoughts were pretty ‘Hypocritical’ because I was already moving on myself… and had just come back from a pretty fun date haha.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I love music videos so much…. So maybe we’ll do one in the future… no plans just yet. I’m still so in love with how the lyric video for the song turned out!

How was the recording and writing process?

The song was produced by Craig McConnell (Celine Dion, Keshia Chante) and co-written with both myself, Kayla Diamond (Cadence/Universal) and Craig McConnell. I’m so grateful to have such an incredible army of musicians behind this song. ‘Hypocritical’ was one of those songs that just flowed together so effortlessly. It was the first time Kayla, Craig and I had worked together, and we wrote this song in a couple hours and recorded the vocals and that was pretty much it. To me co-writing is all about finding your songwriting family and that’s exactly how it felt working with Kayla and Craig on this song.

What role does Toronto play in your music?

Toronto is home for me and will always have a special place in my heart. I recently moved back to Toronto full time after living in the States (Boston & LA) for 4 years. Having the time to explore the music scene here in full force has been amazing. There is so much talent in Canada and I’m so grateful I get to work with so many incredible musicians here!!

How has your time in LA changed your musical perception?

Living in LA made everything about why I do music so much more real. Being at the center of all the buzzing, surrounded by so much talent and success was very inspiring to me and pushed me keep hustling and growing as an artist/writing.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

YES it does!! I’m crazy excited to keep putting out new music. The next single is ready to go and on it’s way over to all your ears very soon…

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Very likely end of summer 2019 😉

Any plans to hit the road?

No plans just yet… but I’ll keep you posted!!

What else is happening next in NOA’s world?

This past year for me was filled with so much songwriting, honing my sound as an artist and crazy fun new experiences. From moving to LA and back and being on Season 2 of CTV’s The Launch, I’m super excited to keep writing and releasing new songs, and playing shows for my fans. I really can’t wait to share my new projects with you!!! Eeee yay.
