Hi Lauren, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi! Thank you so much for having me! I have been just wonderful, how are you?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Real”? Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
I would love to talk about Real! “Real” is my first single, that I released on June 21st, and it is inspired from one of my past relationships and what I’ve learned from that time in my life. This song was a way for me to express the way I feel about the casualty of relationships nowadays and how badly I crave commitment and something genuine. So often people go into relationships with different expectations, and I want this song to be reminder that you have to be true to yourself and your values when entering a relationship, so that you can keep your heart safe.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There will be a little in-studio, acoustic video released for Real very soon, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process has been simply amazing. Songwriting has always been a huge passion of mine. It’s a way for me to process all of my emotions and cope with all that I’ve been through with love, loss, and life in general. It’s so amazing to be able to tell my own story through music, and I really hope my songs can help others who are in similar situations to know that they are not alone and being you is the most beautiful thing you can do. Also, getting to work with songwriter, Stan Chan was an incredible experience, and I could not be more thankful for his guidance and for pushing me to become a better writer. The recording process was also amazing, because it was so different from anything I have ever done before. Seeing my music come to life, with the help of the incredible, Kevin Andres, is something I cant even put into words. It was truly incredible.
What role does Chicago play in your music?
Chicago is such a beautiful city and it is my home away from home for the school year! I go to school for Musical Theatre in the city, so the training I’m obtaining from school and the vibrant nature of the city plays a huge role in my music.
How has Sara Bareilles and Ariana Grande influenced your writing?
Sara Bareilles is a tremendous influence in my writing. It was her song “Gravity” that not only made me fall in love with pop music, but also inspired me to write about my own experiences with heartbreak. I was afraid to write about my own stories at first, because I didn’t know whether I would be good enough or be able to do anything with it. But after the pure honesty of her lyrics and how they have helped me through my own heartbreak, I knew I wanted to be able to do that for someone else, and I haven’t been able to stop writing ever since! It’s crazy how powerful sharing your own story can be, and now I cannot get enough. I also respect Ariana Grande so much and listen to her music maybe a little toooo much. She is so versatile and never fails to amaze people with what she offers the world, so I admire her for all of the hard-work she puts in.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I am so lucky to say that, that’s exactly what it means! I will be releasing 3 more singles in these next few months to come! The new singles are coming along great, and I am so thankful to be able to release more music. Thank you so much for asking, and I cant wait for you to hear them!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The next single will be coming out in the beginning of August, so stay tuned on my socials for a release date! My instagram is @laurenoliviahoward and my facebook is under Lauren Howard 🙂
Any plans to hit the road?
I would absolutely love to tour! The thought of getting to play at venues and have people come to support my music is an absolute dream that I REALly hope will come true. After all of the singles are out there, it is definitely a goal of mine to hit the road.
What else is happening next in Lauren Howard’s world?
These next three singles are the biggest things happening in my world next, and I am constantly writing and working on music, as well. In the fall, I will be going back to school to continue working on my craft and spend as much time as I can working on some more music. Even though the future is unknown, I am very grateful for all that is happening now, and I cant wait to find out what is in store for the future. Thank you SO much for having me, and don’t forget to stream “Real” by Lauren Howard on Spotify or Apple Music!!
